Location
Andaz Munich is located in the north of the Bavarian capital in Schwabing district, a little off the beaten track – so it’s more for guests who don’t want to stay in the right middle of the hustle and bustle of the city and are looking for a quieter, more relaxed place to stay.
Getting there
Arriving at Andaz Munich is quick and easy – whether you’re coming from the city or the airport. The U6 underground line takes you right into the heart of Schwabing. Simply get off at Münchner Freiheit or Nordfriedhof, from where it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the hotel.
If you prefer a more direct route, take a taxi or use ride-sharing services such as Uber or Free Now. It takes around 15 minutes to get there from the main train station and 30 to 40 minutes from the airport, depending on traffic – convenient and stress-free.
Travelling by car is also easy. The hotel is located directly at Leopoldstraße 170 and offers a modern underground car park with direct access where you can park for a fee.
How to get to the hotel
On this trip, we travelled to Munich by train, arrived at the main station and chose an alternative public transport option, which unfortunately turned out to not be that convenient. We first took the U2 underground line to Hohenzollernplatz and from there another handful of stops on the tram, but at least then we were right outside the hotel entrance!

Check-in
After a short hop from the train stop across the street to the entrance, I was already inside the lobby. Unfortunately, there is no greeting at the door at the Andaz Munich.
When I arrived shortly before 16:00, all three check-in desks were occupied and I had to wait briefly but after just a moment, I was kindly asked if I wanted to check in and after confirming, I was immediately offered something to drink so I ordered a coffee and was actually able to check in no more than 3 minutes later.
I was greeted warmly at the desk and the coffee was served at that very moment. So I was able to check in while drinking my coffee. Everything was ready and we were given a few key details about the hotel, as well as the information that the Uniquo rooftop bar would be closed in the evening due to an event, but would be open during the day on Sunday.
As we already knew from the app, we were kindly upgraded to a Junior Suite due to our Explorist status. After the two vouchers for the welcome drinks had been handed over, we were asked to be patient for a moment while the staff checked whether our room was really already prepared.
So we sat down in the lobby for a moment and thought, that will certainly be a quick one – after all, it was already 16:00 and therefore a whole hour after the guaranteed check-in time. I drank my coffee patiently and we waited quite a while until a quarter past four when the friendly gentleman from check-in handed us the room keys for our Andaz Suite! So we had been given another upgrade – our originally booked room was obviously not ready yet and they didn’t want to keep us waiting any longer. Actually really cool, don´t you also think?!

Andaz Munich at a glance
The Andaz Munich basically consists of two buildings, which offer a total of 234 rooms and 43 suites. On the street is the 5-storey main building with the adjoining 12-storey tower and behind it, connected by a bridge on the 5th floor, is a second 5-storey building which only contains rooms.
The main building has a lobby, coffee bar and restaurant located on the ground floor and conference rooms at the rear of the building. The spa with fitness centre and pool is located in the side main building on the 5th & 6th floor and on the 12th floor you will find the rooftop bar.

Suite
As always, we had booked the smallest room for two people – in this case the king-bed guest room – and after getting that fantastic double upgrade we got a super Andaz Suite.
So Suite No. 802 will be our home for the next two nights!

Welcome
As we arrived in our suite, the welcome gift was not yet there – we assume because it was already waiting in the room originally assigned to us. However, not even a minute after we had entered our suite, a member of staff came and provided us with a fruit basket and a bottle of really good Prosecco aligned with a personalised welcome card. We were delighted with this lovely gesture!

Entrance
Behind the room door, you will find yourself standing in a small corridor with the guest toilet to the left. Equipped with its own washbasin and a decent size, it’s really very practical.

Living room
Straight ahead you come into the living room, which also doubles as a dining room and office. With a fully equipped desk, a relatively large sofa and a round dining table with two chairs, as well as a fully equipped kitchenette, there’s a lot going on here and the room, which is actually not too small, feels unfortunately quite cluttered. However, everything is beautifully and stylishly decorated in dark colours with wooden accents.

The minibar is located in the kitchenette and is included once per stay, as in all Andaz hotels. So we were also able to help ourselves to soft drinks and snack on a small bag of crisps free of charge.
Of course, you will also find a capsule coffee machine and a kettle, as well as everything you need to make yourself a tea or coffee.

Bedroom
You enter the bedroom through the living room. The corner room has two enormous panoramic windows and, of course, a huge bed with an extra length of 2.10 metres and a width of 2 metres. The mattress is comfortable, but rather on the firm side – anyways we still slept really well here. The duvet was wonderfully cosy and the two pillows were the same size but different in firmness, although both were more cuddly than firm.
At the foot of the bed is a kind of wardrobe section on which the TV is installed. The screen can be rotated so that you can even watch telly sitting on the window sills.

On the left hand bedside table was the remote control and on the right the telephone with a pad and pen were sitting. A bedside lamp, which can be controlled individually, is installed on both sides, as well as master switches for all the lamps in the room and sockets for charging electronic devices.

Bathroom
From the bedroom, you enter the really beautiful, bright and spacious bathroom. Straight ahead is the toilet in its own small room and to the right is the extremely spacious shower. At the far end of the room, a bathtub is set into the floor and has its own floor-to-ceiling panoramic window. Where else can you get that? Quite nice, isn’t it?

Opposite the shower is the beautiful washbasin with two sinks and a separate illuminated mirror on each side. The hairdryer and additional basic amenities can be found in the drawers. Behind the washbasin is a window with a view into the bedroom, which can be closed with a blind if required.

A really special feature of this suite is the large walk-in wardrobe. Although it cannot be closed with a door, it is still very spacious and offers the opportunity to store all your clothes and both suitcases very comfortably. You will also find the safe here, as well as all the usual utensils you would suspects from a wall cupboard. So iron and ironing board, shoehorn, bathrobes and slippers, as well as everything you need if you want to dry-clean your laundry at the hotel.

View
The view from the 8th floor of the Andaz Munich is of course superb. The building is the highest in the surrounding neighbourhood and therefore offers a great view. You can see the Olympiaberg and parts of the stadium and of course the whole area around the hotel. If you have a room facing the other side, you can even see as far as the Alps in good weather!

Turndown
Unfortunately, Andaz Munich doesn’t offer a turndown service. To be honest, we both really can’t understand quite why. Interestingly, there is a turndown service at the Andaz Bali, for example, and I think this is simply a must for a hotel of this class – at least for all suite categories.
Hotel activities

The entire wellness area of the Andaz Munich is summarised under the umbrella term Spa at the Andaz. The entrance is centrally located on the 5th floor of the main building and the area is open daily from 8:00 to 21:00. Only the gym can be used 24 hours a day.
Pool
The really great pool at Andaz Munich is located on the roof of the 5-storey side building and can be reached via a staircase at the spa below. Located in the centre, it is surrounded on three sides by a beautiful roof terrace. When temperatures are nice, there is usually quite a lot going on here and it can therefore be difficult to find a free lounger. There are also a handful of loungers available in the indoor area by the pool, but these were mostly unused during our stay.
The pool itself is quite long and you can certainly swim a lane or two here. There are some relaxing areas built into the side of pool that can be turned into a kind of whirlpool at the touch of a button. All we need for ultimate happiness is a hot jacuzzi…

The entire outdoor area can be shaded with awnings – after all, it can get really hot in in the Munich summer sun.
In fact, this roof terrace with its fantastic view is a kind of hideaway and really has holiday flair! We really love spending our time here!

You can also order snacks and various drinks at the Bar. But the poor person who has to work the bar is responsible for ordering, serving, clearing up and also shading and handling all seating of the entire roof terrace. Of course that can’t work!
We also reported this during our last stay – but unfortunately not much happened here. Unfortunately , this means that crockery is not cleared away and loungers are not equipped with cushions – which simply cannot be done by one person. The management also seems to be using young and inexperienced colleagues up here. The poor ones really do a great job, but just can’t keep up – how can they?

Fitness Center
The gym is located right next to the entrance to the spa area and although not particularly large, it is certainly sufficient and in our opinion relatively well equipped.

Spa
In addition to treatment rooms, the spa at Andaz Munich also offers two fairly large relaxation rooms – one of which is a quiet room. In the centre between those the two saunas and the steam bath are located. The area is beautifully designed and feels super relaxing and cosy when the weather is bad (which it also partially was during our stay).

The two saunas are at different temperatures and the steam bath works okay – better than in most other hotels. The showers are also located here for all guests to shower off before and after their sauna session.

Restaurants
Lonely Brokkoli & Terrace
The hotel’s cosy restaurant serves breakfast as well as dinner. The menu mainly offers higher-priced meat options with some fish and vegetarian options.
We have eaten here at every stay and like the style of the restaurant and the food is really delicious. On this visit, however, something obviously went wrong with our reservation. We arrived about 15 minutes before the reserved time and asked if we could have our welcome drink at the lobby bar beforehand which was confirmed and that we could take our time and eat afterwards.
Unfortunately, when we wanted to eat after the drink, there was no table available which was quite surprising for all of us – as we had asked in advance. So we were asked to sit down for a while and were immediately promised that dessert would be on the house as compensation.
No sooner said than done – so we sat down again, chatted for a while and waited. And waited and waited. In the end, we were called 45 minutes after our reserved time and the somewhat desperate-looking young gentleman unfortunately only had the ‘side table’ available for us.
Up until then I was quite understanding, but at this point I got a little angry. We had made the reservation weeks in advance and it’s totally okay that something comes up and guests have to wait a little while. But we had really been looking forward to this meal and I was absolutely not willing to accept this emergency table given the prices and the circumstances.
After some rearranging and reorganising, a nicer table by the window was available 5 minutes later. Somehow, in my opinion, it’s a shame that one is often tried to be fobbed off and things only work as you as a guest start stating what you want in a friendly but very direct manner. What happens to guests who can’t or don’t want to be that straight forward?
Be that as it may – in the end we got a table as we had reserved it and the service that followed was overly friendly. In a manner that made us think: okay, this is special treatment for difficult guests. Also a shame, in my opinion – as it is not really necessary.
The food arrived pretty quickly and was really tasty. Unfortunately, my broccoli (the dish that gave the restaurant its name!) was cold. So – the ambience is great and basically the service and the food are super. But simply too expensive for my taste.
The promised desert was a particularly large portion and almost impossible for us to manage, but all the tastier for it!

Bicicletta & Terrace
The cosy coffee bar is located directly at the front of the hotel and also has a small terrace where you can sit in the sun and enjoy people-watching – so it couldn’t be more relaxed. Not a typical hotel café, but rather a real city moment!
If you like, you can even hire a bike here and explore the area even better.

M´Uniqo Rooftop Bar & Terrace
The stylish bar is located in and on top of the 12th floor of the hotel tower and offers not only a great view and delicious cocktails, but also a true rooftop open-air bar experience on top of the tallest building in the neighbourhood. From here you can enjoy a panoramic view over the whole of Munich and even see as far as the Alps in good weather!
Once a month there is Lazy Sunday Day Drinking, when the bar is open between 14:00 and 20:30 – otherwise Sunday is a day off.

Lobby Bar
There is a small bar in the lobby where you can redeem your vouchers for the welcome drinks and where you can of course also sit together with friends or family for a cocktail in the evening. Above all, the bar also functions as an overflow area for the restaurant. If the terrace cannot be opened, the restaurant space itself is not that big and may not be sufficient enough for all guests having breakfast and dinner.

Breakfast
At the Andaz Munich, breakfast is served in the in-house restaurant The Lonely Broccoli. Because of booking the Preferred Partner rate, breakfast was included for us, but paying guests have to pay a hefty 44 euros for it.
We were greeted in a friendly manner at the entrance to the restaurant, asked for our room number, escorted to a table and could directly order our hot drinks.
The beautifully presented buffet offers a wide selection of delicious breakfast options, but for my taste the sweet component fell rather short. There is only one type of muffin, a bread pudding and the option to choose a waffle from the menu – that’s it. Of course, I missed the French toast on the menu, which unfortunately also was not available even after asking nicely.

Every morning we were asked whether we already knew the breakfast system and on the first morning were told that hot drinks will be served at our table. There are also pre-printed notes laid out on each table on which you can tick which off the dishes you would like to have freshly prepared from the kitchen.

Both days were pretty busy and it was rather difficult to find a nice spot to sit down. However, if the weather permits, we can highly recommend the terrace. There’s less hustle and bustle here and you can start the day with a little bit of a holiday feeling. The service staff are really nice, but really work their tails off to keep up.
The breakfast times are:
Monday – Friday 7:00 – 10:00
Saturday & Sunday 7:00 – 11:00
Check-out
We were able to organise an extremely generous check-out time of 17:00 at check-in – which is of course absolutely not the standard. As Titanium status holders, we were given the opportunity to check out by 16:00 at the latest, subject to availability, and the fact that this was extended by another hour was really great!
The process itself was really quick and well prepared. We were checked out in a friendly and professional manner.
Costs
For the two nights at the end of June 2025, we paid a good 565 euros – for the smallest room category, mind you. The upgrade to the beautiful Andaz Suite, the breakfast and the late check-out were due to our special rate.
Departure and onward journey
After this lovely weekend stay at the Andaz Munich, we travelled back home by train. So we took the same route by tram and underground back to the main station and were there in less than 40 minutes.
Conclusion
Andaz Munich is a great place to stay. We like the hotel and will definitely be back. In our opinion it really is actually unbeatable in Munich at its price category.
We were incredibly happy about the super upgrade and had a great time this time too. The design of the hotel, as well as the facilities and cleanliness are top!
The huge wellness area in the middle of the city is unique and definitely the unique selling point for us! You can really relax here and experience some truly wonderful holiday moments! Unfortunately, the hotel really needs to improve its service and do some homework, but basically everyone is trying hard, but somehow not really together.
For us, Andaz Munich is actually really an adults-only wellness hotel at heart and accordingly we tend to see couples, single travellers, small groups of friends and even business travellers here – but not really families. Especially not with small children. There were a few young families here and they did get some very annoyed looks from other guests when the babies started to cry. To be honest, I have to say that small children just don’t really fit into this hotel concept.
For us, the Andaz Munich is a really great premium hotel. Unfortunately, there are still a few things missing from it to be a luxury hotel. But the hotel is generally of a high standard.
So from us there is a definite: Go there!

Rating
We award Andaz Munich 8 out of 10 possible points.
We deduct a total of 2 points because our room was not ready at the time of check-in after 16:00, the situation on the roof terrace and the spa has unfortunately still not changed, as well as due to the botched reservation situation in the restaurant.
