Location

The Andaz Vienna am Belvedere is just a few minutes’ walk from Vienna Central Station, offering the perfect combination of urban connectivity and a central location. From here, it is easy to explore the city, visit the Belvedere Palace, or stroll through Vienna’s lively city centre. For travellers who want to combine city exploration with comfort, this hotel is an absolute winner.

Getting there

I arrived at Vienna Schwechat Airport on the morning flight QR 183 from Doha, after a short stay at the Park Hyatt Doha. Following an uncomplicated journey on the S-Bahn, which involved one change, I reached the hotel within a short 5-minute walk. As soon as you enter, you can sense the hotel’s modern lifestyle character, which is typical of the Andaz brand. Everything seemed easily accessible, straightforward and inviting. As there was no staff member at the entrance to greet, I simply walked straight through to reception with my suitcase.

Check-in

Check-in got off to a bumpy start. Due to the Hyatt Privé rate that I had booked, I was upgraded to a higher room category. However, the room was not ready at 2:30 p.m., which was fine as the official check-in time was not until 3 p.m. I was greeted warmly, though, and offered a welcome drink at the bar while I waited. At 3:20 p.m., just under an hour later, the room was still not ready. So I asked again about the recent room status – causing a small commotion at reception, resulting in me being upgraded once more – this time to the Andaz Suite.

Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere at a glance

The Andaz Vienna am Belvedere is located in the modern Belvedere district, one of Vienna’s most up-and-coming areas. Spanning two connected buildings resting on 12- to 18-metre-high pillars, the hotel offers unobstructed views of the city. The renowned architect Renzo Piano, known for projects such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and The Shard in London, designed the architecture.

The ground floor houses the lobby, the Eugen21 restaurant, the Café Cyclist and the Lobby Lounge. The Aurora rooftop bar offers breathtaking panoramic views of Vienna. The 303 rooms and 44 suites are spread over the upper floors and offer modern comfort in a stylish setting. The design concept, developed by the Viennese studio Archisphere, is based on the fictional character Eugen 21, who is said to be a descendant of Prince Eugene of Savoy. The interior combines classic elements with contemporary art and craftsmanship.

Before its conversion, the building used to be an office complex. The redesign took into account the location’s historical significance and how it fits into the urban environment. Today, the Andaz Vienna am Belvedere offers guests a unique experience in the heart of the city, combining modern design with Austrian hospitality.

Suite

As mentioned previously, we booked the cheapest room category as usual, and thanks to the Hyatt Privé rate that we had booked and a minor mishap at check-in, we were upgraded to an Andaz Suite. So Suite No. 0822 is mine for this one night.

Entrance

Behind the door, you immediately enter the small entrance area, which has a coat rack and seating. To the immediate right is the walk-in wardrobe, which contains the usual items such as an iron and ironing board, as well as a safe. Opposite is the powderroom.

Welcome

Along with a handwritten welcome letter, there was a small welcome gift consisting of four delicious macarons.

Living room

Straight ahead is the bright and modern living area, which is comfortably furnished with a desk, a television and a cosy sofa. The perfect blend of a functional workspace and a relaxed lounge atmosphere has been achieved here.

The minibar, located in the sideboard below the television, offers everything you need to prepare coffee or tea, as well as snacks and soft drinks. All of these items are included in the room price but will not be refilled free of charge.

Bedroom

The real highlight of the room is the bedroom, which features a spacious king-size bed framed by an elegant, modern design that also creates a cosy atmosphere. The layout offers plenty of space to move around freely, and large windows provide an abundance of daylight and a magnificent view of the city and the main railway station. The small details are just right, too: there are four pillows offering two different levels of firmness, and you can enjoy a cosy blanket, too. I slept extremely well here!

Bathroom

The bathroom features a walk-in rain shower, a bathtub and a washbasin with one sink, as well as high-quality toiletries from Byredo. The modern, elegant furnishings are functional, too, and small details such as coloured slippers complete the experience.

View

The suite offers direct views of Vienna Central Station and the surrounding city from both the living room and the bedroom. This emphasises the hotel’s urban character and brings light and atmosphere into the room.

At this point, I would like to say a few words about the condition of the suite. Some of the furniture had large scratches, was quite worn in places and actually there was a piece missing from the parquet flooring in the bedroom. It’s not a big deal, especially given the great upgrade. However, if I had paid full price for this Andaz Suite, I would have had a very interesting talk to the management.

Hotel activities

Fitness Center

The modern, well-equipped gym offers enough space for an efficient workout. Those who don’t want to leave their fitness aside while travelling will be happy here, as they can even train with a view!

Spa

Although small, the spa is lovely and features a sauna, steam room and relaxation area. It’s ideal for a relaxing break after a day of sightseeing or a long week at work.

Restaurants

Eugen21

The Eugen21 restaurant, located on the ground floor of the hotel, offers all-day dining. The compact menu features high-quality, modern presentations of classic Viennese pub cuisine.

Rooftop Bar Aurora

Set on the 16th floor of the Andaz Vienna, the Aurora rooftop bar sets its own standards with its views over Vienna and its creative selection of drinks. Hotel guests can access the bar via a private lift and choose to sit inside or, if the weather permits, outside on the large terrace. It’s the perfect place for a sundowner or a relaxed evening get-together. Children under the age of 16 are permitted at the bar until 9 p.m. at the latest.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the Euren21 restaurant and offers a substantial selection of small, fine dishes made with fresh ingredients. In addition to the buffet, the hotel offers à la carte options. Hot drinks and freshly prepared dishes are served at your table. While the breakfast selection is not quite as extensive as in other Park or Andaz hotels, the quality is certainly impressive.

Check-out

Unfortunately, the check-out process was rather impersonal. The formalities were dealt with quickly and without any real interest being shown in our stay, which was a minor disappointment at the end of an otherwise enjoyable hotel experience.

Costs

We were charged € 216 for this one night in the smallest room category at the Andaz Vienna am Belvedere. Thanks to the Hyatt Privé rate we booked, the upgrade to the Suite and breakfast were included. However, the credit of USD 100 for culinary offerings were settled separately.

Departure and onward journey

Thanks to its proximity to the main railway station and excellent transport links, it is very easy to continue your journey in Vienna, whether by train, taxi or underground.

I then headed back to the airport, from where I travelled to my home airport in Frankfurt.

Conclusion

The Andaz Vienna offers a well-thought-out overall experience, combining lifestyle, comfort and urban charm. Highlights include the Suite, Rooftop Bar and Spa, although there are minor weaknesses in the check-in/check-out process and in the room details.

The hotel is ideal for solo travellers, businesspeople, couples and anyone who wants to enjoy a stylish, central stay in Vienna. Despite there being no special offers for children, I am sure families are also well catered for here.

On our internal EVRYWHRE scale, we place the Andaz Vienna am Belvedere in the Lifestyle category: modern, central and comfortable. It’s perfect for city breaks, urban discovery tours and relaxing getaways. That’s why we definitely recommend it! So: Go there!

Evrywhre Kategorien

Rating

We award the Andaz Vienna am Belvedere a solid 8 out of 10 possible points.

Points were deducted for the unsatisfactory check-in and check-out processes, and for the rather shabby areas of the Suite. This issue needs to be addressed urgently.
