Labtwentytwo, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Barcelona, Spain 🇪🇸 – newest hotel in Barcelona

Premiere for a hotel from the Tribute Portfolio Collection in Barcelona, as the Labtwentytwo has just opened here in January 2024 and brings its guests budget-oriented hospitality to the Catalan metropolis. But how is it? Let’s find out in our review today!

Location

The hotel is located a little outside of the city center in a residential area, which in our opinion was not very busy. Nevertheless, there are various hotels in the neighborhood. You can even see the Sagrada Familia in the distance and can easily reach it by walking in 30 minutes from the Labtwentytwo.

Arrival

We had a late arrival and therefore took a cab from Barcelona El Prat airport. You can also take the airport bus into the city, which is a bit cheaper. Nonetheless, the journey took a little while with good after-work traffic, so it was already dark when we arrived.

How to get there

Of course, there are various options depending on how you arrive. The best way to get to Labtwentytwo from the airport is by cab. But you are also connected to the city’s bus network via the nearby Espronceda – Marroc bus stop.

Check-in

The check-in was a bit chaotic because initially the Marriott Bonvoy Titanium status was not recognized. After a brief moment, however, the problem was resolved and the status benefits have been explained to us. We were able to use late check-out and choose a welcome gift. In addition to an amenity or 1000 points, there was also the option of breakfast for two, which we opted for.

But back to the actual check-in process. The question of whether it would be possible to upgrade to the suite was answered in the affirmative straight away. First joy!

Hotel overview

The hotel is still very new and therefore of course in very good condition and also quite stylish. As we arrived late on the day of arrival, we only saw the whole “splendor” the next day and have to say that it really created a little “wow” effect.

If you walk past the lobby on the left, you will reach a small co-working space and a small lounge where you can relax or refresh yourself if you need to wait a little longer at reception.

Our room

Let’s head for the suite, or rather the room? Because what the Labtwentytwo receptionist wanted to sell us as a suite was simply an upgrade to a family room on the mezzanine floor. Unfortunately, this was quite disappointing because, on the one hand, this promise naturally raises expectations that cannot be met and, on the other hand, the room was also located on the mezzanine floor. You’re already in a hotel that has 20 floors and also offers a good view on the upper floors and then you’re down here, well yeah, a bit disappointing.

Welcome

But it was cool that the welcome card was even handwritten. The welcome gift itself, this mini chocolate bar, was a bit weak, but we appreciate the effort!

Living- and bedroom

The actual room here at Labtwentytwo was nothing more than a classic double room. There is a wardrobe with the usual things such as a safe, iron and ironing board, and of course a minibar for a fee. There was also a very comfortable king-size bed.

If you need to get some work done and don’t feel like meeting people, there is also a desk. That was good!

Bathroom

The bathroom opposite the wardrobe was very chic and modern. There is a walk-in rain shower and also a second shower and bath combination – which we found a bit strange. Two shower options in one bathroom. The whole thing was rounded off with care products from AnatomĂ©. Shampoo, body wash and conditioner were available.

Perhaps one more sentence about the water pressure here. We knew that there was a bit of a water shortage at the time of our visit in April 2024, but here in the hotel there was a strong airplane feeling when washing our hands. Of course, it wasn’t any better in the shower. Be sure to check out our YouTube video about it, we’ll show you!

The view

The view from our room here at Labtwentytwo was absolutely not worth mentioning, so if you’re interested, take a look at our video.

Hotel activities

The pool

We drive up to the roof, because there are various other things to discover here, including an unheated rooftop pool with a fantastic view, but see for yourself:

Gym

And we go from the top to the bottom for the gym, because: If you still want to do some training here, you will find a really well-equipped gym with various training options.

The restaurants

Here in Labtwentytwo you have various outlets, which we would like to introduce to you in more detail below.

Bar22

As already mentioned above, there is a kind of co-working space and a bar called Bar TwentyTwo – “22” – in the hotel lobby next to the actual reception.

Za´atar Pool & Bar

We have already shown you the pool on the roof. But there is also a bar up here, which offers cool drinks with a fantastic view over the city from midday until late at night.

Breakfast

Let’s take a look at breakfast here at Labtwentytwo. It is served in the Alcachofa Resto, which is located in the basement of the hotel. However, the location is not particularly noticeable itself, as daylight enters the restaurant from above. Unfortunately, this doesn’t change the fact that the dishes were only sparsely cleared up, the food was poorly replenished and the service was not very friendly. Unfortunately, the breakfast guests – at least on the day of our stay – mowed away the buffet to such an extent that we really wondered whether a national famine had broken out! What was that…Omg..

Well! Unfortunately, what finally made it onto our plates wasn’t exactly as good as expected.

So: if you don’t get breakfast as part of your status anyway or if it’s included in the rate you’ve booked, then it’s better to take the points and have breakfast outside. It’s not really worth it here.

Check-out

The check-out experience here at Labtwentytwo was neither particularly noteworthy nor something that should be omitted: we paid our bill and the receptionist sent us the bill by email in addition to the printed version without any problems. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always work out that way, which is why we always really appreciate it.

Costs

For one night in the soft opening in April 2024, the cost of a double room was 211 euros. As breakfast was included due to the status, there were no extra costs for us.

The departure and onward journey

We grabbed an Uber and drove on to the Hotel Arts, which is managed by Ritz-Carlton. You can of course read about it next week on our YouTube channel and here on the blog!

Conclusion

In the meantime, we have checked the prices here at Labtwentytwo again and found that it has become significantly more expensive, especially in the summer months, than it was at the soft opening. We can tell you that prices up to a maximum of 200 euros are really okay here, but you shouldn’t pay anything above that because this is more of an accommodation for price-sensitive customers who still value great design.

Recommendation

However, we would still recommend the whole thing here – if the price is right – for families, solo travelers and/or couples. So you can do it at any stage of life.

Labtwentytwo

Rating

The rating is 7 out of 10 possible points.

If a room on a higher floor, a better breakfast and even better trained staff had been included, we would definitely have given it a better rating.

Go there?

Yes and no. It depends on your situation. For prices above 200 euros we say no, below that: Go!
