A relaxed red eye flight LH 772 in Lufthansa´s A380 from Munich to Bangkok – including spacious seats, great service and delicious food. From the smooth check-in to priority security and lounge access to the gentle take-off, the ‘Gentle Giant’ feeling of the A380 was at its best. Quiet, comfortable and well looked after, we landed refreshed at Thailand’s bustling hub, Suvarnabhumi.

Getting there
As Germany’s largest airport, Frankfurt Main Airport is naturally very well connected. You can, of course, travel by car and park directly at the airport choosing between various car parks, but it is of course much cheaper to park at car parks located a short distance away. These usually offer a shuttle bus service, which can be booked in advance, and often offer discounts for longer parking periods.
However, the easiest way to get there is certainly by public transport. Long-distance buses from various providers stop directly at the airport, and you can of course also get to the airport by train. Long-distance trains stop at their own station directly at the terminal, and local trains stop directly in the basement of Frankfurt Airport.
I travelled this way and arrived at the regional station by S-Bahn. From there, you just have to take a few escalators up and you’re you’ll find yourself right in the middle of the famous ticket hall.





Departure Airport
Frankfurt Airport is one of Europe’s most important air traffic hubs and Germany’s largest airport. Over 1,000 flights take off and land here every day – and the trend is rising. The airport offers two terminals with direct access to international airlines and a wide range of shops, restaurants and services. Despite its size, everything is well signposted and digitally networked.
There is currently a lot of activity at the airport: with the new Terminal 3, which is partially open, Frankfurt is growing noticeably. It brings more capacity, modern architecture and smart technology – perfect for stress-free travel.



Check-in
We checked in for both flights early using the app and were able to load our boarding passes directly into our phones wallets. I was travelling with hand luggage only, so I didn’t have to go to the actual check-in counter. Fabi, on the other hand, had checked baggage and was able to drop it off easily at the self-check-in machines in section A of Terminal 1. This option is a great alternative to the regular counter if there is a long queue of passengers or you simply don’t feel like interacting with another person.
Lufthansa offers every Business Class passenger the option of taking up to two pieces of hand luggage and two pieces of checked luggage free of charge.
We also received immediate digital confirmation that we had checked in our suitcases and were given a tracking number online in case of loss. This means that the baggage tag can no longer be lost.




Security check
There are several ways to pass through security at Frankfurt Airport. We actually prefer the security checkpoint in Terminal 1 A. They have had baggage scanners there for quite some time now, which allow liquids and electronic devices to remain in your luggage, making the security check a lot more relaxed and faster.
As at all security checkpoints, there is also an extra access point for business class passengers, which is usually less busy than the one for economy class passengers.
However, here’s a little pro tip: regardless of which travel class you are travelling in, you can use the pre-bookable slots offered by SmartWay. These can be booked online for all passengers starting from 3 days before departure. However, the number of accesses per time slot is limited, so you should book as early as possible. In my experience, it is usually not very busy there and you are often even faster than when using the Business Class queue.
As usual, we opted for the business class security checkpoint in Terminal 1 A on this Thursday afternoon and didn’t have to wait at all. There were four other passengers ahead of us at the actual checkpoint, but we were directed to another checkpoint where we were totally to ourselves. As a result, our check took about two minutes. A record time, so to speak!
By the way, you can also use the Lufthansa app to check the current waiting times at the respective security checkpoints in real time for your flight from Frankfurt and, if necessary, adjust where you pass through security to save time.


Lounge Frankfurt
As Business Class guests, you can of course also visit one of the various lounges that Lufthansa has set up for its guests at Frankfurt Airport. We visited the Business Class Lounge at A13 and were able to quickly charge our electronic devices, have a drink and check out the newspapers.
The lounge was surprisingly empty, so we were able to relax and sit down in peace for a while. However, we decided not to eat anything, as we will be getting more than enough food during both of our flights.

Shuttle flight
Our short, 35-minute shuttle flight to Munich is being handled at Gate A50 today. LH 118 will take us to the Bavarian capital on a Lufthansa A320 (DAIZC).
Boarding began right on time and in an extremely orderly manner. As Business Class guests in boarding group 2, we were able to board just a few minutes after boarding began and after a friendly welcome at the door, seats 8D & 8F were ours for this flight.





On Lufthansa’s short- and medium-haul aircraft, the seats in Business Class are identical to those in Economy Class, except that the middle seat remains empty. The only difference is that the catering is much more extensive and of a higher quality, or rather that it is available at all.






We took off for Munich right on time and had just under 20 minutes at cruising altitude for the whole service, which the three flight attendants managed very quickly in this sold out 10-row Business Class.
The small 2 course lunch was served super fast, followed immediately by the beverage service. However, there was still hardly enough time to finish everything in time.

Transit airport Munich
We had plenty of time and were able to make our way through Munich Airport, which was pretty empty, in a relaxed manner.
It was a short walk up the escalator to passport control, which was completely empty and also offers EU citizens the option of using fully electronic gates.



Our long-haul flight to Bangkok was handled in the airport’s satellite building, so we had to take the shuttle train, which runs below the apron, to our gate.

Lounge München
As in Frankfurt, Business Class passengers can also visit the lounge in Munich. We decided to go through passport control first and then visit the lounge at Gate L13.
This Lufthansa lounge is a combined Business Class and Senator Lounge, located to the right and left of the same entrance. Thanks to our American Express Platinum card, we were able to visit the Senator Lounge with our Business Class tickets. The room is relatively large and there was very little going on there that evening. This was probably because most guests were in the Business Class Lounge and our flight was the last one departing from the terminal that evening.
The food selection here was a little larger than in the sister lounge, and there was a proper bar where you could even order selected cocktails. But the real luxury is obviously the size and, above all, the peace and quiet!








Boarding
Our flight LH 772 to Bangkok was handled at Gate L13, which has two entrances and can be used on both sides. We started the boarding process on time, with families with small children and guests requiring assistance boarding first. This was followed by boarding group 1 for First Class passengers and HON status members, directly followed by group 2, which included Senators and Business Class passengers. So, after the process began, we only had to wait just under 10 minutes until it was our turn to board.
Groups PRE and 1 were handled personally by staff at the gate, and from boarding group 2 onwards, the automatic gates were used.





After passing through the gates, you need to take an escalator or lift down one floor, from where you enter the first section of the passenger boarding bridge, which splits into three at the end. The two lower sections are used by Premium Economy and Economy Class passengers. The upper section is reserved for First and Business Class passengers.



Welcome
So we went upstairs, were greeted warmly at the door and shown to our respective aisle. A small bag of salted almonds was already waiting at each of the Business Class seats, and while we were settling into our seats, were offered a selection of sparkling wine, water and orange juice. My question as to whether it was also possible to get a glass of white wine was answered with a friendly yes, and shortly after the drinks were served, we were all given a round of hot towels.

Start & Routing
This truly enormous aircraft is something of a ‘gentle giant’ – despite, or perhaps because of, its incredible size, you hardly notice any movement inside, and even take-off is surprisingly smooth and, above all, relaxed and quiet. It’s actually the ideal aircraft for people who don’t particularly like flying!
So, after boarding on time, we took off half an hour late and flew east across Europe, over Austria, Hungary and Romania. Then we flew over the Black Sea, Georgia and Azerbaijan and the Caspian Sea. We continued over Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and along the northern border of India and the southern tip of Myanmar right into Bangkok.

After Covid, Lufthansa had actually already decided to decommission or sell all A380s in their fleet, but has now brought eight of these giant aircrafts out of hibernation in Teruel, refurbished them and sent them back on route.
I would like to say at this point: luckily for me! I am a huge fan of this giant aircraft, but had not yet managed to fly on it. Accordingly, I was very excited and quite nervous long before this flight!
The double-decker can accommodate an incredible 509 passengers in four classes. In addition to First and Business Class, Lufthansa has also installed Premium Economy and Economy Class on this aircraft. Premium Eco and Eco fill the entire lower deck. The upper deck, on the other hand, is equipped with First Class at the front and two truly gigantic Business Class cabins at the rear. Only four rows of Economy Class at the very back of the aircraft form a mini cabin.
On our flight to Bangkok, the cabin was somehow alternately warm and cold and, surprisingly, super dry throughout the night.
We sat in seats 15 H & 15 K and will take a closer look at them with you today.



Seat
The seats on Lufthansa´s A380-800 are identical to all other Business Class seats offered by the airline and are nothing new to us on this blog, but I still found them somehow more comfortable than on all other flights. Perhaps this was because the aircraft had been completely refurbished?!
In the middle of the first Business Class cabin, there is another visual separation above the seats and as in most other cases, the seats on the sides are arranged parallel to each other, slightly offset towards the cabin wall. The seats in the middle are aligned with each other.



The seat offers a few special features, such as a coat hook that can also be used to store glasses overnight. The charging options are located in the centre of the front of the middle console, while the armrests contain tables and wired remote controls for the television and lighting.
The Lufthansa A380-800 also offers individually controllable ventilation valves. The life jacket is located in a recess on the side below the centre armrest. Nothing should be stored here – even if the space is very inviting to do so. When the seat is moved, any items stored there fall into the seat interior – unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way!






Unfortunately, Lufthansa Business Class seats don’t offer many storage options, especially for larger items. The small seat pocket below the monitor is not big enough for a laptop, but you can store your shoes under the footrest. If you’re sitting by the cabin wall, you can also store small items in the headphone storage compartment.
BUT! In the A380-800, you have access to really huge storage options on the cabin wall. If, like us, you share the two seats, you can relax and store everything you want to stow away there. So, at the beginning of the flight, you can also store the topper and pillow until you need them later and also all your backpacks or bags – which is a truly unique advantage on this aircraft!




Bed
Of course, you can convert the seat into a completely flat bed at the touch of a button. With the topper on top, the seat even becomes relatively comfortable. Add the blanket and pillow and you can snuggle up all cosy. I don’t always find this bed great, but on this flight it was actually quite enjoyable. Somehow the seat was better padded.
The relatively long but really narrow bed surface can be extended a little as the outward armrest can be lowered. Unfortunately, this meant that I often felt like I was about to roll out of bed at night. I was sitting in 15 H near the aisle and could only bend my legs to the right towards the centre console to a limited extent. Fabi, who was sitting by the window, had even less room.



Entertainment
Of course, entertainment on board Lufthansa flights also focuses mainly on the monitor. The in-flight entertainment system offers a wide variety of series, films and documentaries, as well as games, flight maps and much more. Lufthansa also offers magazines that can be downloaded via its app and read digitally – giving each passenger the option to download up to three magazines or newspapers.








Amenities
The Lufthansa amenity kit on this flight was a Porsche Design bag filled with an eye mask, socks, toothpaste and toothbrush, lip balm, body lotion, earplugs, refreshing wipes, mint sweets and hygiene covers for the headphones (which unfortunately never stay on).
As on all Lufthansa Business Class flights lasting 10 hours or more there was also a pajama top available in two different sizes.



Food, Drinks & Snacks
On selected flights from its home airports in Frankfurt and Munich, Lufthansa offers passengers the option of ordering exclusive meals in advance via the app from a menu that is not normally available on the flight. I had pre-selected the Badisches Schäufele via ‘My Bookings’ and had been looking forward to it for quite some time before departure.



Shortly after we started, we were served our first round of drinks, and just under a quarter of an hour later, the starters were brought out. We both opted for the veal loin. For the main course, I had the pre-ordered Schäufele and Fabi had the truffle pasta. Both were really delicious. However, neither of us had any room left for dessert. Of course, the meals were accompanied by drinks, which were constantly refilled by the wonderful flight attendant.




During the night, two small Pralines somehow found their way to our seats and were lying on the shelf in the centre console after waking up in the morning.

Exactly 90 minutes before landing, breakfast service began for both of us with a hot towel, crepe, coffee and orange juice. Here, too, the service was once again super professional, fast and extremely charming!

And at the end, we were given Pralines again – everyone got their own little packet. Great, isn’t it?!

Washrooms
There are a total of four toilets available for all Business Class passengers. I actually find this a little sparse for such a large number of seats in a premium cabin. As a result, there are often long waiting times during the evening and morning rush hours.
The washrooms in this A380 are not really any different from those in other aircraft, but surprisingly small and cramped compared to the size of the aircraft. The two rear washrooms, located between the two Business Class cabins, are placed next to each other in the middle of the cabin and offer a (changing) table, which I personally like to use to put my clothes down while I change in or out of my pajamas.




The two other toilets are located in front of the Business Class cabin. They are slightly larger and even have a window. In addition to the amenity kit, all toilet rooms also provide refreshing wipes, mouthwash and a face mist.


Lufthansa Service
The flight attendant responsible for us was very young and obviously hadn’t been working for very long, but she was incredibly friendly and had a smile for every passenger. She did her job professionally and very quickly, but also in a relaxed and easy-going manner.
Arrival
45 minutes before landing, the captain provided information about the remaining flight time, the expected arrival time, the weather, and the obligatory thanks for choosing Lufthansa as carrier — after that, the seat belt signs were turned on and preparations for arrival began.
After a long taxi to the gate, the pilot apparently rolled a little too far forward, so we had to be pushed back before we could disembark via the upper passenger bridge. After that, however, deboarding went fairly quickly and smoothly. In Bangkok, a monitor at the end of the passenger bridge shows which baggage carousel the flight’s suitcases will be delivered to.


Arrival Airport
Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is Thailand’s most important international hub and one of the largest airports in Southeast Asia. Every day, hundreds of flights connect Bangkok with destinations on every continent. The sprawling terminal complex offers modern architecture, efficient processes, and a wide selection of shops, restaurants, and services — from street food to luxury brands.
Suvarnabhumi is also stepping up its game in terms of comfort: new lounges, improved security checks, and a planned terminal expansion are set to make traveling even more pleasant.
Upon arrival at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, we disembarked at Gate E08, and from there it is actually quite a long walk to passport control. However, there is even a priority lane for Business Class passengers, so you can get through security in just a few minutes and be at the baggage carousel in no time.
Thanks to the direct connection to the Airport Rail Link, you can be in the city center in less than 30 minutes – fast, comfortable, and air-conditioned.





Conclusion
This flight LH 772 from Munich to Bangkok BKK was great. Uneventful in the best possible sense with excellent service. Friendly, courteous, and otherwise unobtrusive. The food was delicious and served very quickly at the seat. Lufthansa’s seats are finally being gradually replaced with the Allegris product, but until then, the product still isn’t bad. The amenity kit could definitely do with a higher-quality product, but even that is okay.
Points
Accordingly, we can only award this flight 10 out of 10 possible points. We simply have nothing that would be so seriously bad that a point would have to be deducted for it.
Recommendation
We can recommend this Lufthansa flight to all guests. Families and couples are particularly well catered for in this configuration. Solo and Business travelers are likely to have a direct seat neighbor and are therefore best off in the middle seats, where the distance is greatest.
