Location
The Park Hyatt Hotel in Siem Reap is located right in the center of the city of the same name. Siem Reap is a small town in central Cambodia with around 250,000 inhabitants. It is the ideal starting point for your discovery tours to the Angkor Wat temple complex or Tonle Sap Lake. In just 20 minutes by tuktuk or car, you can be in the heart of ancient Angkor with its many truly fantastic temples.
The world-famous luxury hotel chain Park Hyatt currently has 46 hotels in 26 cities worldwide and is the top brand in the Hyatt Group. There is also a Park Hyatt here in Siem Reap, which is located very close to Pub Street
Getting there
When we landed in Siem Reap at the beginning of October 2023, we arrived at the small but nice international airport, just 15 minutes outside the city. We entered the country there with a fee-based visa-on-arrival (approx. €30). Unfortunately, the small airport has now been replaced by a new and larger airport, which is also a full 90 minutes away, much to the displeasure of the hoteliers and locals. Of course, we can’t (yet) say what the procedures and procedures for entering the country are like there, but they are probably similar.
How to get to the hotel
We arrived from the Zannier Hotel Phum Baitang, which is located just outside the city. The short transfer only took a good 10 minutes. The Park Hyatt is located in the city center and is easy to reach. You can be dropped off at the short driveway directly in front of the entrance.
Check-in & Welcome
When we arrived at the Park Hyatt Siem Reap, we were warmly welcomed, our suitcases were collected and we were taken to the Living Room to check in.
We were immediately handed cold towels and the extremely friendly front office manager took us through the short check-in process. He also gave us some information about the hotel and during the process we were able to choose our welcome drink from a small menu. We both opted for the signature drink and were not disappointed at all.
The Living Room is equipped with two tables for check-in, but also serves as a lounge, lobby and bar. Everything is located in one room, but is visually separated from each other by room dividers. The atmosphere is very relaxed and cozy. You can find out more about the bar in the Restaurants section below.
Immediately afterwards, we were escorted to our room. A fruit basket with a handwritten welcome letter and information about our World of Hyatt membership was already waiting for us there.
Park Hyatt Siem Reap at a glance
The Park Hyatt Siem Reap has a total of 104 guest rooms, 73 with king-size beds and 31 with twin beds. There are also 13 suites, four suites with their own small pool and, of course, a presidential suite.
The building is relatively angled and the rooms and suites have very different layouts. There is no such thing as “the” standard room and you can always try out different rooms during several stays. There are two inner courtyards, one at ground level directly behind the lobby and one on the second floor, where the main pool is located.
The Park Hyatt Siem Reap was designed by Bill Bensley, who planned the entire building from the ground up and also incorporated the history of the hotel that previously stood on this site into his planning. Some elements from the earlier building can be found here. Incidentally, the façade is reminiscent of a temple.
As soon as you enter the hotel, you will find yourself in a circular, 3-storey high entrance hall. To the right, you go back out into the beautiful inner courtyard and straight on to reception. Everything is very well maintained and beautifully laid out.
Our room
Our room 130 was on the second floor with a view of the inner courtyard. We had booked a standard room without a view (so probably onto the street) and, although we don’t have a high World of Hyatt status, we were given a small upgrade and were given a standard room with a view – into this courtyard.
Just to the left of the entrance were two double wardrobes with everything you would expect and need there. In addition to slippers and bathrobes, there is also an ironing board and iron, as well as a safe. Of course, there are also enough drawers and hangers to store your clothes.
The minibar is located two steps further in the room next to the cupboards. A really nice alternative to the “normal” version has been found here. The fridge is hidden in a kind of chest of drawers. It contains soft drinks, water and beer. Tea, coffee, kettle and menu are stored in the drawers of the small cupboard. The coffee machine is on the worktop. Above it is a wall unit in which crockery, snacks and spirits are hidden. It’s a bit like a bar, but beware! All contents are subject to a charge.
Opposite the bed is the TV on a sideboard and a seating area adjoins it, which extends right up to the window. Here you can take a short rest and let your gaze wander outside. There is also an extra table and chair at the bench.
The king-size bed stands free against the right-hand wall and is furnished with four pillows and a blanket.
The telephone is on the left bedside cabinet and the alarm clock on the right. There was also water on both sides of the bed prepared. Additionally, there was also a small letter on the right-hand side, asking guests to simply write down if they wanted anything extra and then place the note on the table so that the items could find their way into the room – presumably during the turndown service.
Incidentally, the curtains in this room are a cool feature that can be opened and closed at the touch of a button.
The bathroom
The bathroom is located immediately to the right of the entrance. When you enter, the bathtub is installed on the left, behind which there is a window in the wall – through which you can see into the room and also out of the window to the outside. Straight ahead is the walk-in rain shower with body wash, shampoo and conditioner from LeLabo, as well as the separate toilet and, to the right of the entrance, the washbasin with two washbasins. All the necessary amenities are stored in the drawer and the body lotion, also from LeLabo, is available on the shelf. If you want to take the products home with you, you can also buy them in the hotel store.
All in all, the room is very nice. Perfectly clean and decorated with love. However, I find the style a bit of a mess and everything quite cluttered. Nevertheless. We felt at home here.
The Park Hyatt Siem Reap also offers a turndown service. For this, however, only the comforter is folded back, the slippers are provided and the curtains are closed.
View
As already mentioned above, the view was of the beautiful inner courtyard. Unfortunately, with the exception of the suites, none of the rooms have a balcony or terrace.
You can let your gaze wander from the window and it’s certainly nicer than looking out onto the street, but of course it’s not a real view…
We were also interested in what the largest suite in the hotel looks like and when we asked, we were delighted to be shown the presidential suite.

Hotel activities
Main pool
It was only a few meters from our room to the main freshwater pool. This was at the end of our corridor and therefore on the second floor of the hotel. Partly covered and built between the hotel buildings, it doesn’t really offer the opportunity to swim long lengths, but it does invite you to relax in the small lagoons and hidden corners among the lush greenery after a busy day at Angkor Wat. Right opposite the exit to the pool there are comfortable daybeds; further over a bridge you reach an area with sunshades and regular loungers.
Fun fact: room 138 is the only swim-up room in the hotel. It is located right next to the exit to the pool area and has its own separate terrace that opens out onto the pool. However, you can see this area completely from the other side of the pool. You should be aware of this before booking this room.
Saltwater pool
There is another small pool on the first floor behind the central patio and directly opposite the pool suites. Unlike the large pool on the second floor, this one is filled with salt water. It feels even more exclusive to lie here, as it is relatively far away from the other rooms and is mainly used by guests in the suites.
Gym
For sports enthusiasts, the hotel naturally also has its own gym, which is well equipped.
Spa
The spa is located at the back of the hotel and offers seven treatment rooms as well as its own steam bath.

Tours
All kinds of tours to all local temples and of course to the Tonle Sap can be organized by the hotel.

Restaurants
Dining Room
As in most of the Park Hyatts, you can have breakfast and dinner in the so called Dining Room. The restaurant, like the Living Room, is located on the central patio and you can either sit inside in the air-conditioned room or sit outside the restaurant under the arcades and enjoy the relaxed and quiet atmosphere. In the evening, the kitchen offers Khmer and international specialties.

In addition, you can also take part in a daily evening with a dance performance and traditional Khmer menu. If you want, you can also reserve a kind of free-swinging bed where you can eat comfortably and enjoy the show.

Living Room
The room where check-in takes place and which functions as a kind of lobby also offers a wonderful, cozy bar. Here you can enjoy excellent cocktails and French-Khmer crossover dishes in front of endless elephant statues.

Glass House Deli
The Glass House works like a French patisserie. A café with French pastries and international flair during the day, the bistro also offers an evening menu for guests who don’t want to miss out on international snacks.
Breakfast
As mentioned above, breakfast at the Park Hyatt Siem Reap is served in the Dining Room. We had to leave relatively early and so almost all the tables were still free at our breakfast time – thank god!
After we had chosen a table, our drink requests were immediately taken. At the large buffet, we could choose from bread, cheese, different types of yogurt and fruit. We also had the option of making our own freshly squeezed juice – a very cool idea!
As is usual in most large hotels, we were also able to choose from a menu of dishes freshly prepared in the kitchen.
The service was fast and friendly, the food came quickly and fresh from the kitchen. Everything tasted great.
As a nice additional feature, there was also the opportunity to have a coconut freshly prepared by a local farmer in the patio during breakfast time.
Check-out
For check-out, there is a reception desk right at the entrance to the Park Hyatt Siem Reap, which is used for all relevant guest service procedures. You are only taken to the Living Room for check-in. The ladies had already prepared everything and the process itself was super quick.
Costs
In October 2023, we paid 309 dollars for one night in the Standard Room at the Park Hyatt Siem Reap, including breakfast. No other costs were incurred during our stay.
Onward journey
The transportation back to the airport was brilliantly provided by the Park Hyatt Siem Reap and we were taken the short distance by the hotel’s own driver. However, the airport is now a lot further away. We don’t know what the chances are of being driven the hour or so to the new airport for free.
For us, it’s off to Thailand to relax. There we will test the Pimalai Resort & Spa and the Sofitel Krabi Phokeetra in Krabi for you.
Conclusion
The Park Hyatt Siem Reap is a good starting point for excursions to the (natural) wonders of the region. If you like a city hotel as a contrast to the jungle and ancient sites, this is a great place to stay. The staff and service are great. Personally, I prefer resorts in the countryside in such situations – but that’s really a matter of taste.
We can recommend the hotel for solo travelers, couples and families.

We deduct one point from the Park Hyatt Siem Reap for the high price of the standard room. The hotel was not really full – in our opinion, a cheaper rate would have been possible.
