Location

Alila Seminyak is located on the Indonesian island of Bali almost at the end of the famous Seminyak Beach – a bit away from the typical hustle and bustle, but close enough to reach it at any time. A few minutes down the road you will find cafés, small stores and creative studios. The direct beach location ensures that you have a sea view practically all day long. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, it’s easier to find it here than anywhere in the center of Seminyak, without having to miss out on restaurants or bars. In other words, a perfect fit.

Arrival

The easiest way to get from Denpasar Airport (DPS ) to Alila Seminyak is by taxi or by grab. Depending on traffic, you should allow around 35 – 50 minutes for the journey to Seminyak. While it is usually quicker at quieter times of the day, it can take much longer in the late afternoon and evening. Alternatively, you can book a private driver in advance, which is especially convenient after a long flight.

However, the public transport network in Bali is extremely sparse and we have actually never seen any busses during our various stays. There are no railroads – a subway network is planned, but will not be opened until 2031 at the earliest.

We took the grab to Alila Seminyak, but it took us almost an hour because of the afternoon rush hour (which somehow seems to happen all the time!).

Check-in

Upon arriving at Alila Seminyak, we were greeted warmly and shown into the open-plan Lobby while our suitcases were unloaded. Once we entered the Lobby, we were immediately transported back to our arrival at Alila Uluwatu. The view wasn’t quite as spectacular, but the styling and ceremony were very similar.

We took our seats for check-in and were each given a small box with a refreshing towel and spray, snacks as well a a welcome drink. The surrounding was surprisingly quiet, which made the whole process even more relaxed.

The whole ceremony was really nice, we felt very well looked after and very welcome. Throughout the process we were also given a small map of the resort and were proactively informed that our submitted Suite Night Upgrade Certificate had been accepted.

Alila Seminyak at a glance

Opened in 2016 as part of the Hyatt Group, Alila Seminyak is located directly on the west coast of Bali and was built around the hotel’s own temple. It is one of the brand’s first beach hotels and thus also represents a certain change of direction, combining the lively surroundings with the brand’s tranquillity, clear aesthetics and understated luxury.

An impressive 90% of the hotel’s rooms and Suites offer sea views. The main part of the complex is grouped around the centrally located pools and in the centre of the property you will find the Lobby with Spa and temple. The complex also includes a gym, a kids’ club and another relaxation pool located off to the side. The hotel also offers its guests a free shuttle to Seminyak town center three times a day.

Suite

As almost always, we booked the regular entry-level room – 1 King Bed Deluxe – and received an upgrade to an Ocean View Suite thanks to the Suite Night Upgrade Award we submitted. Unfortunately, a Preferred Partner or Hyatt Privé rate was not available for us during this stay, as this is only available at Alila hotels for stays of two nights or more.

We were assigned Suite No. 322 – so let´s have a closer look at it together.

Welcome

A small welcome gift was already waiting on the table in the living area of the Suite as we moved in. The beautifully wrapped little box of local sweets was accompanied by a miniature handwritten card.

Living room and bedroom

As soon as you enter the room, you are actually already in the shared living and sleeping area. The Ocean View Suite therefore pretty much gives guests the runaround when it comes to the actual definition of a “Suite”. There is no separate living area here. Accordingly, we would rather use the term “Junior Suite” as the correct description here.

Right by the door is the sofa with a low table, from which you can observe the entire room and which already forms the entire living area.

A few steps further on is the king-size bed. Two slightly different pillows are provided for each sleeper and there is also one large, cozy blanket. The telephone is installed on the bedside table on the right and there is a pad with a pen. Sockets, light switches and bedside lamps are installed on both sides.

Directly behind the door at the entrance area is a minibar station hidden inside a sideboard. Here you will find a coffee machine with a kettle, coffee, tea, crockery, cutlery and some snacks. The fridge is stocked with soft drinks, beer and chocolate but everything except coffee and tea is subject to a charge.

Turndown

A classic turndown service is also included as standard, where the curtains are closed in the evening and water is provided by the bed.

Bathroom

Along the left long side of the room is the bathroom, which can be entered through a large door right by the balcony. Straight ahead is the very long washbasin, which has an extra-long sink that can be used by two people at the same time. To the right, as is usual for Alila Hotels, are the many amenities of the house brand. In addition to the usual items such as body lotion, soap, wipes, a nail file, cotton buds, cotton pads and the like, you will also find after sun lotion, mosquito repellent spray and sun lotion! Really cool, isn’t it!

In the drawers below you’ll find the hairdryer with the laundry bag and safe. You can also leave clothes in a specially prepared Giving Bag, which will then be donated. So if you no longer like an item of clothing during your vacation or it has become too tight 😉 you can also do a good deed!

The open cupboard is located opposite the washbasin. This is where the slippers and bathrobes are kept, as well as the iron and ironing board. The separate toilet is located at the far end of the room.

Towards the front of the room you will find the wet room. Here, the walk-in rain shower is installed directly next to the bathtub inside one room. The tub is installed directly below the window so you can enjoy the view while bathing or showering – but of course the window can also be covered with a privacy screen. In-house products of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and bath salts are also available here.

By the way: all Alila hotels are focusing on sustainability and so as many containers as possible are made of glass or stoneware, locally produced and, above all, easy to refill!

View

As the name suggests, the Suite’s balcony offers a direct view of the sea and in this case of the adults-only pool. You can also see the family and the public pool in the distance. But of course: the sunsets on the west coast are definitely going to be one of the highlights of your stay.

Hotel activities

Pool

Alila Seminyak boasts an impressive total of four pools! Three of them are reserved for hotel guests – the main pool is also open to the public.

The hotel offers guests additional amenities at all pools. As soon as you have chosen a sun lounger, you will be handed a small box with water, a glass and sun cream. Really cool, isn’t it!

Main Pool

The main pool is located directly by the beach and is open to hotel guests as well as guests from outside the hotel. Non-hotel guests can order drinks and food at the Bar and in return have access to only this pool.

The beach view from here is of course fantastic and the connection to the Beach Bar right next to it leaves nothing to be desired. There are plenty of sun loungers with umbrellas available, but you can also make yourself comfortable on chairs or beanbags.

Family Pool

This pool is located above the main pool and is mainly reserved for families. You also have a great view of the beach from here and can relax on some sun loungers with umbrellas. However, there is no special separate shallow area for the little ones or even play equipment here.

Serene Pool

Located at the same level as the Family Pool, this pool is built a lot closer to the beach. This area is adults-only and therefore reserved for adult guests. There are a few more sun loungers with umbrellas here and the idea is that peace and relaxation prevail at this pool.

Relax Pool

This small pool is the only one that is a little off the beaten track and separated from the other pools at the end of the complex built between buildings and offers no view of the sea. If you have your room in this area of the resort, the walk here is simply shorter.

Beach

The wide and beautiful beach in front of the hotel is public, like everywhere else on the island. Accordingly, there is a bit of walking traffic here from time to time and there are no hotel-owned sun loungers. However, you can of course quickly and easily walk from one of the pools to the beach and simply take a dip in the sea.

Fitness Center

The gym has an open design and is in a quiet location. The equipment is sufficient for a good workout, but offers no special features. You will find some cardio equipment, muscle machines and of course a free weights area. Towels and water are also available.

Spa

The Spa Alila is quietly located below the Lobby and offers no other amenities apart from the usual treatment rooms, such as a sauna or steam bath.

Kid’s Club

Right next to the Seasalt restaurant is the Play Alila kids’ club, which offers daily changing activities for the little ones. Some activities are included in the price, others have to be paid for separately. If you would like personal supervision for your little ones, this is of course also possible for a fee.

Special features

A special feature of the Alila Seminyak is that the hotel’s own temple is not hidden away in a corner as is usually the case, but instead forms the prominent center of the complex and is visible from everywhere corner.

There is also the option of having expenses at the neighboring sister hotel KLEO added to your room bill at the Alila Seminyak. Meaning you can also eat at their Italian restaurant without having to pay directly on site.

Restaurants

Seasalt

The hotel’s central all-day dining restaurant is located in front of the adults-only pool directly by the beach. Seasalt has an indoor and a spacious outdoor area and features a modern and calm appearance. During the day, small international and Indonesian dishes are served. In the evening, the restaurant focuses mainly on seafood.

Beach bar

The Pool and Beach Bar is located next to the main pool and offers an open layout as well as an unobstructed view of the pool and, of course, the wide, white sandy beach. From here you can perfectly observe the hustle and bustle by the sea. International and local small and classic dishes as well as finger food are on offer.

Breakfast

Breakfast at Alila Semninyak is served at Seasalt Restaurant right by the beach and offers both a very extensive à la carte selection and a fairly large Buffet. The choice from the menu is served at your seat – for the rest you simply help yourself to the Buffet. The selection there is large and of really high quality. Most guests use the outdoor area with an unobstructed view of the sea, but we opted for the air-conditioned indoor area. It wasn’t too busy and service was excellent. Our orders were taken quickly, in a very friendly way and served really quickly.

Check-out

Everything was well prepared for check-out at reception and all went smoothly. We were also asked how our stay was and whether we needed any help with our departure.

Costs

The accommodation costs for this one-night stay at Alila Seminyak amounted to just under 5 million IDR, which was equivalent to around 255 EUR in November 2025. Breakfast was already included in the rate and the upgrade to the Suite was made possible by redeeming a Suite Night Upgrade Certificate.

Departure and onward journey

We traveled on by grab to get to our following hotel. So next, we’ll take a look at the W Bali before we heading on to Nirjhara. So stay tuned – it’s staying exciting!

Conclusion

Alila Seminyak impresses with its location, the well thought-out resort concept and the very friendly staff. The check-in experience was really great and the separate adults-only and family areas are perfect. That way all types of guests get what they need from their holiday. Their really huge breakfast absolutely impressed us and the whole resort is super relaxed and ideal for winding down in contrast to the hustle and bustle of the surrounding area.

A haven of peace in a lively area of Bali. The level of service is even comparable to that of the very exclusive Alila Villas Uluwatu and is therefore even better than that of Alila Ubud.

The hotel is equally suitable for families, couples, solo and business travelers. With separate pool areas and a kids’ club, the balance between tranquillity and family friendliness is achieved very well. Some other hotels can certainly learn a thing or two from this – I’m especially thinking here of our stay at the Anantara Rasananda on Koh Phangan.

Accordingly, we place the Alila Seminyak in the Luxury segment on our EVRYWHRE internal scale.
