At Nirjhara Bali, it feels as if you are intentionally taking a step away from everyday life and immersing yourself in a small, very private world. The gentle lapping of the water, the abundance of greenery and the special architecture create an atmosphere that immediately grounds you and slows you down. A place where time suddenly no longer plays a major role. This is exactly what makes your stay here at Nirjhara so special.

Location
Nirjhara is located in Tabanan in southwest of the Indonesian island of Bali – an area that feels much quieter and more pristine than the popular beaches around Canggu or Seminyak. The complex is surrounded by rice fields, palm trees and features a small waterfall, giving the resort its name. Despite the seclusion, you can reach the coast and beach in just a few minutes and can quickly reach popular surf spots. The location is ideal for anyone who wants to experience Bali from its relaxed side without being completely off the beaten track.
Arrival
The easiest way to reach Nirjhara from Denpasar Airport (DPS) is by taxi, grab or pre-organized private transfer. As the resort is located near Tabanan, you should expect a journey time of around 60 to 75 minutes, depending on traffic and the time of day. Especially around Canggu, it can get a bit crowded at peak times.
We arrived from our previous hotel, W Bali, by grab after around three quarters of an hour’s drive.

Check-in
As we arrived at Nirjhara, we were greeted warmly by name and escorted to the open-plan Lobby. After sitting down, a cold refreshing towel and a Roselle mix was served as a welcome drink. In addition, we were able to choose a fragrance for body lotion and amenities in the villa while the rest of the formalities were completed. Hotel manager Alejandro introduced himself personally and then accompanied us to our assigned Canopy Suite.
We had explicitly booked the Canopy Suite because the tree house feeling really appealed to us and we absolutely wanted to give it a try. In fact, at the time we were staying at the hotel, there was still a Preferred Partner Rate which would have also secured us an upgrade. However, we declined and were really looking forward to this Suite experience.

Nirjhara at a glance
Nirjhara is located slightly off the beaten track in the jungle north of the famous Tanah Lot water temple. The small resort is a Villa-only complex and comprises a total of only 25 Villas, including seven Canopy Suites. In addition to Villas without a pool, there are categories with a plunge or large pool, as well as a two-bedroom Villa and a 600 m² Residence.
According to the hotel, there are plans to build more Villas with hot tubs in the near future. The resort grounds are also home to the eponymous waterfall, which you can see from some of the Villas as well as from the restaurant and pool. There is also a yoga pavilion right down in the small valley by the river.
Incidentally, the name Nirjhara means “waterfall” in Sanskrit, which explains the location by the river and the waterfall motif in the resorts logo.

The resort also features its own small cinema where movies are shown in the evenings and a library where you can borrow or swap reading material and cool off for a while if desired.

Canopy Suite
As already mentioned, we had booked a Canopy Suite and, according to Alejandro, were booked into the “best Suite in the resort”. The Canopy Suites are slightly set back along the small valley and can be reached via a staircase to the mezzanine floor, so to speak.
So let’s take a closer look at Suite No. 37.

Welcome
There was a fruity, beautifully presented welcome gift as well as a handwritten welcome card from the hotel manager.

Entrance
As you enter the door, you will find yourself in a small entrance area with a narrow spiral staircase leading to the floor above, here you can also place your suitcase.

Bedroom
The bedroom is of course dominated by the comfortable king-size bed. Two slightly different pillows on each side and a large, cozy comforter await you here. There is a bench at the foot of the bed and bedside tables with a remote control on the left and a telephone with the obligatory pad and pen on the right. They also feature sockets, charging points and light switches on both sides. The large window front is certainly a particular highlight, offering a view outside and somehow creating the feeling of being in the middle of nature.

Opposite the bed is a sideboard with a TV set on top. Inside you will find the minibar. The small fridge is well stocked with soft drinks and snacks. Next to it you will find cutlery and crockery, as well as coffee capsules. The coffee machine and kettle are available for your use on top of the shelf.

The built-in wardrobe is located at the long side of the bed. Here, as usual, you will find bathrobes and slippers, as well as the safe and all things you need to have your clothes dry cleaned and, of course, enough space for the clothes you have brought with you – but to be honest, the wardrobe is not too spacious.

Turndown
A turndown service was also offered – during the evening, the bed was made up, slippers were placed by the bed and there were also some good-night cookies waiting for us.

Bathroom
The rest of the floor is taken up by the bathroom. The room is rather small and compact, but the space is well utilized. The washbasin is located right opposite the door and the toilet is just next to it. You will find all the toiletries you need on the shelf behind it. In this case, there aren’t that many, but nevertheless all the items you actually need. There are cotton pads and buds, as well as soap and body lotion. At the end of the room is the walk-in rain shower, where you will also find body wash, conditioner and shampoo in your chosen fragrance.
In the entrance area you will also find two Kimonos and a bag you can use to take all the things you need from the room to carry to the terrace or the pool.

Terrace
At the top end of the spiral staircase you get to the spectacular roof terrace. The whole floor is really spacious and features the same size as the bedroom, bathroom and entrance area on the floor below all together. So here you find plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the fantastic 360-degree panoramic view.
In addition to a table with two chairs and a round lounger, there is also a round bathtub, which was already filled and decorated with fresh frangipani flowers as we arrived.

View
The view from up here is of course spectacular! You can see the whole resort and even the waterfall from up here. Really really great!

Resort activities
Pool
The pool is located right in the center of the resort and is built directly against the valley, creating an infinity effect at one of the short ends, which works wonderfully and fits in with the resorts dramatic views. In addition to a few sun loungers with parasols, there are also a handful of cabanas available. Not much was actually going on here throughout our stay. Most of the guests were probably enjoying their own pools or out and about in the surrounding area. As soon as we sat down, we were handed bottles of water accompanied by ice cubes, glasses and a small bowl of potato chips.

Fitness Center
The hotel’s own gym is quite respectable for the size of the resort and offers some cardio machines, muscle-building machines and a free weights area, as well as water and towels.

Yoga Shala
Follow a narrow path and down a spiral staircase into the valley and you’ll find yourself at the Yoga Shala. Here you can take part in a yoga class while soaking in the view of the waterfall. Located in the middle of the valley and right next to the river, you can start the day relaxed and well stretched by joining the yoga club.

Spa
The hotel’s own The Retreat Spa is located near the small Lobby and offers three treatment rooms with beautiful views of the countryside – one of which even features its own wooden bathtub. The spa also offers two Finnish saunas.

Spa menu
Special features
The Nirjhara also offers its guests some interesting activities, which vary each day of the week. Most of them are free of charge, but some have to be paid for.

Restaurants
Ambu
The resort’s restaurant serves as an all-day dining spot and is located above the pool, almost directly opposite the waterfall. The open space offers a great view over part of the resort and also a fresh breeze, as it is built slightly above the treetops.
During the day, international classics with a clear Asian touch are offered and in the evening you can choose from a smaller menu with international dishes. They also try to accommodate guests’ requests outside of the menu. We, for example, had a Pizza with Salami and onions that evening – which wasn’t even on the menu. That´s what I call real good service!

Dinner Menu
Pool Bar
Below the restaurant is a small but fine pool bar, which offers the same menu as the Ambu restaurant throughout the day and also serves by the pool.

Breakfast
Breakfast is served at Ambu restaurant and only offers an à la carte option. If you consider the fact that the hotel is only home to only 25 Villas and that not all of them are always occupied and not all guests always eat a lot (or anything at all) for breakfast, this is by far the better option than setting up a large buffet and then having to throw away a large proportion of the food.
So we were served at our seat and the service was super friendly and quick too. What more could you ask for?

Breakfast Menu
Check-out
Everything was well prepared for check-out, which was relaxed, friendly and quick. We were even given a bracelet as farewell and also a souvenir, so we can take a small part of the Nirjhara back home. Great idea, don´t you think? We were absolutely super happy and very pleasantly surprised!

Costs
The cost of this one night stay at the Nirjhara amounted to around IDR 4.6 million, which in November 2025 was equivalent to around EUR 233. Breakfast was already included in the room rate.
Departure and onward journey
Our short stay in Bali was about to end after our stay here at Nirjhara and we took a transfer organized by the hotel back to Denpasar Airport. The airport shuttle took about 90 minutes at 8 a.m. – so be sure to factor this time into your travel plans. For not taking a grab or taxi, the hotel also gifted us water and a few snacks for the drive.
We continue our journey from Bali towards Thailand. As we fly with Singapore Airlines, including a stopover, back to Bangkok, where two more hotels to be reviewed await us as we will stay at the Waldorf Astoria and the St. Regis before finally wrapping up our Asia trip and returning to our home airport Frankfurt.

Conclusion
We arrived at Nirjhara with mixed expectations and were completely and positively surprised. From the friendly and personal check-in, a great tree house experience, a super nice pool we had almost all the time just to ourselves to the really attentive staff who addressed us by name throughout the whole stay and then the also perfect service and delicious food. What more could we ask for? This stay was a real all-round success!
We can actually recommend Nirjhara to all types of guests. Couples and solo travelers are definitely in good hands here. Although I would be more cautious with families. The atmosphere in the resort is characterized by peace and relaxation. With the right kids, it’s definitely possible here, but to be honest, I would rather choose a different hotel.
Due to our truly outstanding experience during our stay, we place Nirjhara in the Luxury category on our EVRYWHRE internal scale. Also I think it is really worth mentioning that the hotel was recently even awarded one of the coveted Michelin Keys.

Rating
We award this stay a very well-deserved 10 out of 10 possible points. Everything was just right here. Very well done!
Go there?
Absolutely! We can fully recommend the Nirjhara.
