Four Seasons Resort Langkawi offers pure luxury at one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. With its mix of Malay and Moroccan architecture, a fantastic spa and top restaurants, it is the perfect place for a relaxing vacation. What do you think?
This is our hotel review #20 out of a total of #29 reviews.

Location
Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is located in the very north and directly by one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. From the small village of Kampung Padang Lalang, there is only one road heading north and leading directly to the resort.
How to get there
The best way to get to Langkawi is of course by plane. There are mainly connections from the state capital of Kuala Lumpur, but there are also some international nonstop services. However, these are often only offered seasonally. Alternatively, you can take the ferry from the nearby mainland to the island’s capital Kuah.
We flew to Langkawi via Singapore. If you are interested in reading about my flight in Lufthansa on the 747-400 Business Class in upper deck from Frankfurt to Singapore. Feel free 😉

How to get to the resort
We took a grab from our previous hotel, the St. Regis Langkawi, to get to this hotel and it took us a good 20 minutes. Of course, you can also get to the hotel directly from the airport by transport, grab or taxi. I can’t think of any other alternative that doesn’t involve a car.
Check-in
You will first be stopped at a barrier and it will be checked whether you are on the list of new guests checking in. Once this has been confirmed you are allowed to drive on to the driveway of the Four Seasons Resort Langkawi. We received a friendly welcome there, our luggage was unloaded and we also had to confirm the number of suitcases before they made their own way to our room. We were then led to the check-in area.

Unlike many other hotels, check-in at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi does not simply take place at reception. Here there is a separate area just for this purpose. The covered terrace between two high walls overlooks a beautifully designed water area. Our passports were collected there and we were given a fragrant cold towel and a refreshing drink. The process somehow dragged on a little – perhaps it just felt particularly long because we were sweating profusely sitting outside without air conditioning.
During check-in, we were given information about the resort, a map, information about possible activities and a letter from the travel provider through which we had booked our preferred partner rate.
This included all the associated benefits, such as
- a 100 dollar credit
- a welcome gift
- late check-out
- breakfast for two
- upgrade (subject to availability)

We arrived at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi around 12:30 and unfortunately our room wasn’t ready yet. As we would have had to wait for it to be ready for two hours, we decided to use our 100 dollar house credit directly for massages. Fortunately, a slot was available for the two of us and we were able to move to the air-conditioned Arrival Lounge in the meantime.

Four Seasons Resort Langkawi overview
As you can see from the map below, the resort consists of 8 different types of beach villas and detached houses, each equipped with 4 rooms. The upper floor rooms are located on the top floor and the ground floor rooms at ground level. Both varieties are available with garden or partial sea view. There are also deluxe garden view upper floor rooms. As the rooms are located in a pavilion, the Four Seasons Resort Langkawi misleadingly calls all its rooms pavilions.
The entire complex stretches along a large section of the beautiful Tanjung Rhu beach. The central wing with reception, lounge, stores, activity center and three out of the four restaurants forms the center of the resort. The two large pools are located along the beach.
The entire resort has been designed and built with a very strong Arabic influence, which at first sounds rather strange, but fits in wonderfully with the surroundings and the traditional way of building houses and works surprisingly well.
As the resort is very extensive, so you can always ask for golf carts to take you evrywhre.

Pavillion
We booked this room through a travel agent as an exception, as we don’t have status with Four Seasons and this way still got some amenities with the preferred parter rate. We had booked the Partial Sea View Upper Floor Pavilion room and were really looking forward to a villa, as our rate also included an upgrade subject to availability and the next higher category is a villa. Unfortunately, you cannot be upgraded to this category at the Four Seasons Resort Langkawi.
So beware: the tour operator’s homepage did not indicate that you cannot be upgraded to a villa – these are excluded from upgrades. Unfortunately, we only found out at the hotel. Accordingly, we received the room that we had booked, which in our case was number 504.

Above you can see the floor plan of the upper floor room. Below that of the ground floor room. The room itself is the same. Only the terrace or balcony differ at first glance. But if you look closely, you’ll notice that the rooms on the ground floor have an additional outdoor shower instead of a large bathtub. We didn’t even notice this on site. But it looks really great in the pictures.

Welcome
As we were driven to our room completely relaxed after our massage, a great surprise awaited us. In addition to fruit, macarons and pastries, a large bottle of champagne was provided for us. What a gift! Amazing. We immediately topped it off and toasted to our vacation.

Living room
Going up the stairs to the upper floor, you will find yourself in front of a floor to ceiling window. The sliding glass door serves as the entrance to the room. Behind it, you are standing directly in front of the sofa with a small table. This is where the welcome gifts were waiting.
At the far end of the room you will find the king-size bed with a large comforter and three pillows per person. One larger and firmer, the two smaller ones a little softer. The bed itself is super comfortable and we had a great night’s sleep here. There are bedside tables to the right and left of the bed. Here you will find the telephone, information brochures, notepad and pen, as well as a pillow menu from which you can also choose additional pillows of a different kind.
To the right is a second large window front, which can also be opened and behind which is the terrace with partial sea view. To the left of the bed, a built-in sideboard houses the minibar (for a fee). Here you will also find the coffee machine, kettle, cups, glasses, snacks and all the accessories necessary for making coffee and tea.
Unfortunately, the air conditioning in the room was a bit of a problem. It was somehow very loud and didn’t cool properly. We turned on the ceiling fan for the night and with that the temperature was fine for us.

Bathroom
To the left of the bed, a double door leads into the large bathroom, in which’s center two washbasins are installed opposite each other on a block underneath a skylight. Here you will also find all the necessary bathroom items including aloe vera gel in case you get sunburnt.
I would also like to mention that the bathroom does not have its own air conditioning. However some cool air is drawn in from the actual room. Personally, I thought it was great not to be standing wet in the cold draught after taking a shower. Fabi, on the other hand, found it too warm.

The toilet and shower are located to the left of the room, separated by doors. Panpuri care products are available for you to use in the wet room.
At the top end, there is a bathtub underneath a dome. You can enter the tub via a step. Towels, other care products and a foot towel are already provided here.

On the right-hand side of the room, accessible through two open doors, is the open built-in wardrobe. Here you will find the usual suspects, such as iron and ironing board, safe, everything for the laundry, shoehorn and brush, as well as a beach bag for use during your stay.

View
The view from the terrace is quite nice. Even if, as the name suggests, it is somewhat obstructed by buildings in front of it. But behind the palm trees and buildings you have a great view of the beach and the sea.

Resort activities
Adult Quiet Pool
The beautiful and huge adult pool of Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is located directly at the beach and, in addition to four pairs of loungers in the central area, has a total of 10 individually separately enclosed small areas, each equipped with two loungers and umbrellas, which offer you unique privacy despite the shared pool. As soon as you arrive, cold water and cold towels are brought to you.
There is a bar in the center where you can also sit, eat ans lounge. Of course, you can also order here. We were a little hungry and shared a Cesar’s salad which was very tasty and refreshing.
Of course, you also have direct access to the beach from here via a staircase at the side. The pool itself is a quiet zone where, apart from the sounds of nature, the sea and the jungle, there is absolute silence.

Family Pool
In contrast to the Quiet Pool, the Family Pool is a great place to relax with the whole family. The pool is quite large and extends over several levels and various bays. Located directly by the beach, everyone will find a cozy place to snooze and cool off.

Beach
The beautiful beach of Tanjung Rhu is the ideal place to feel like you’re in paradise. As one of the most beautiful beaches on Langkawi island, you’ll find everything you need for a dream beach. Every time we were there, we almost always had the beach to ourselves, despite the hotel running on quite a high occupancy.

Fitness Center
The recessed gym is housed in an elongated building complete with a window front. Here you can find everything you need for a good training session and you can also hire bikes for your stay. There is also a steam sauna and showers located in an adjoined building. Opposite to the gym you can also find a tennis court.

Spa
The beautiful Geo Spa at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is located in the middle of the jungle right beside a cliff that rises dramatically behind the buildings. To the left and right of the centrally located reception area with its beautiful pond and yoga pavilion are three treatment buildings. Each building has an all-round glass front and can be opened towards the path and the rock face. Each treatment room also has its own building which houses changing rooms, toilets, showers and even steam baths!

Kid´s Club
The large Kid’s Club at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is located directly behind the Family Pool and, in addition to a climbing frame on sandy ground, also offers the opportunity to climb and play in an air-conditioned indoor area.

Touren
You can go on several different excursions from the Four Seasons Resort Langkawi. The island offers countless possibilities. We decided to take a trip to the Kilim Geoforest Park because of the hotels proximity to the World Heritage Site. This trip is highly recommended.
It starts directly from the resort’s beach and you can be inside the park within a 20 minutes boatride. With Amy, you also have a fantastic guide by your side! In addition, our boat was only occupied by 3 other guests apart from the two of us, so there were only a total of five guests on this excursion. If you don’t book the trip from the hotel, you’ll have to drive to the park where you’ll be transferred to larger, fully occupied boats. These trips focus more on speed and show than on nature.
Amy, on the other hand, was a really fantastic guide. He told us so much about the park and was extremely friendly and cheerful! The captain had an incredibly good eye and found lots of reptiles in the mangroves for us to see. He also drove us safely and we could totally rely on everything going well the whole time.

Activities
Four Seasons Resort Langkawi offers a wide range of activities, all of which have been summarized for you on a leaflet. This was made available in your room and provides a great overview. So you can relax and decide whether and if so, what you would like to do.

Restaurants
Ikan-Ikan
The Malay restaurant at Four Season Resort Langkawi is called Ikan-Ikan and offers top-quality local dishes. Located directly by the beach, you can enjoy fantastic views over the coast from the air-conditioned pavilions or the large terrace.

Kelapa Grill
The beach restaurant at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is called Kelapa Grill and offers international dishes starting from lunchtime until dinner time giving the option of sticking your bare feet in the sand while eating. We had burgers and pizza here for a change and can absolutely recommend both.

Rhu Bar
Rhu Bar, which is also located directly at the beach, is the perfect place to end the day with a sundowner. From here, your view extends over the beach and the sea all the way to the horizon. The cocktails are delicious and the atmosphere is fantastic.
In a separate air-conditioned room, there is another bar and a pool table – should you feel like it.

Breakfast
Four Seasons Resort Langkawi serves breakfast at Serai Restaurant, which was specially built just for this purpose right by the beach. The entire complex is dedicated to breakfast. You can take a seat on one of the covered terraces open to the outside and enjoy the beach and the sea from there!
The very large buffet with Asian and European dishes is centrally located in an air-conditioned pavilion with 4 live cooking stations. Here you will find everything your heart desires – the buffet is really very extensive.
Drinks are served at your seat and there is a small selection of a la carte dishes from a menu. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. And despite the hotel being almost completely booked, no more than half of the seats were occupied.

Check-out
We used the buggy service to check out and the friendly employee who picked us up reminded us emphatically not to forget anything. He listed the charging cable, passport, toiletries, things from the safe and more. What a really great service.
We were driven straight to the lobby. Everything was prepared there and we were given a friendly farewell. The check-out went off without any further problems.

Cost
One night at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi cost us MYR 2420. That was equivalent to around 468 euros in April 2024 and included the stay, breakfast, no upgrade and 100 dollar credit.
Departure and onward journey
We actually wanted to continue our journey going to The Datai by grab, but there was nothing available that far off in the country side. So a local cab was the only option. Unfortunately, we could only pay in cash – but we didn’t have any. So the receptionist kindly paid us the necessary money in bills in exchange for a credit card payment.
As a goodbye to Four Seasons Resort Langkawi, we were each given a tetra pack of water to take with us.
The drive to The Datai then took a good half an hour and went by pretty quickly through the island’s jungle.

Bottom line
Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is really beautiful. The combination of Malay architectural style and Moroccan elements works really well. The layout of the property on the almost 2 kilometer long stretch of beach is unique and offers views of the sea from virtually everywhere on the property. Add to that the really nice spa, great restaurants and the proximity to the nature park you have a great resort. Really great all in all.
Compared to the other hotels on our Langkawi round trip, the personal service was not quite as perfect. But that’s really complaining on an extremely high level.
Hotel Homepage
Rating
We can really only award this stay a 10 out of 10 possible points. We discussed at length whether Four Seasons Resort Langkawi should receive 11 points. However, we were missing the upgrade to a villa or a better view from our terrace and, in comparison, the service should have been even more individual and better in order to be extraordinary.
But again: the standard of this hotel is extremely high. However, this is also appropriate for the price.
Go there? & Empfehlung
Yes. Go there! Absolutely!
We can highly recommend Four Seasons Resort Langkawi for couples and families. Singles can also vacation here. But you should be aware that it feels very much like a honeymoon at every turn.
