A sun terrace with a pool, a delicious breakfast, and a gym with a view—the Grand Hyatt Berlin definitely has its highlights. The rooms, on the other hand, seem a bit outdated, and true 5-star standards such as turndown service or a harmonious lounge experience are unfortunately lacking. Find out why a visit is still worthwhile in our detailed review!

Location
The Grand Hyatt Berlin is centrally located on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin Mitte, right in the heart of the German capital. The area is bustling with tourists and vibrant with many attractions such as the Philharmonie and the Neue Nationalgalerie, are within walking distance, and virtually all others can be easily reached by public transportation.
Getting there
If you are coming from the surrounding area, you can easily reach the hotel by car – a parking garage directly below Potsdamer Platz offers numerous parking spaces for a fee. From BER Airport, you can reach the hotel by taxi in about 35 minutes, or by S-Bahn in about 45 minutes.
Those arriving by long-distance bus can also reach the hotel stress-free: Berlin Central Bus Station (ZOB) is well connected – from there, you can reach the Grand Hyatt by subway in about 25 minutes or by taxi in about 20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
How we get to the hotel
We traveled to Berlin for this short tour with Deutsche Bahn and got off at Berlin Hauptbahnhof. From there, we took the subway to Potsdamer Platz station, which was only three stops away, and from there it was a maximum of a five-minute walk to the hotel.

Check-in
We arrived at around 4 p.m., and just as we got off the subway, we received a notification that our room was ready. We checked in as usual at the reception desk in the lobby, where the extremely friendly lady had everything prepared and gave us a warm welcome. Due to our Hyatt Explorist status, we were given a quiet room facing the courtyard, but this was changed to a room facing the street at our request without any problems. We wanted a little view and were given a room on the 5th floor.
After giving us some information about the hotel, the opening hours, and the services offered, she even showed us to the right elevator and asked if we needed help with our luggage, which we gratefully declined.

Grand Hyatt Berlin at a glance
The ground floor houses the lobby and reception area, as well as the two restaurants Vox and Bistro Mitte. The ballroom and conference center are located on the first floor. In addition to rooms, the 7th floor also houses the Grand Club, while the 8th floor is entirely dedicated to Club Olympus with its pool, gym and spa.
The entire hotel building is trapezoidal in shape and built around an inner courtyard. This means that there are quieter rooms facing the courtyard with less of a view and rooms facing the street, which are naturally a little noisier but offer a better view.

Rooms
We reserved a simple king-size bed room and got it. At Hyatt, an upgrade to a higher room category is actually possible even with the lowest status, but the hotel was hosting a large conference and was therefore quite full.
Room No. 534 is our home for the night. Let’s take a closer look at it together.

Welcome
Unfortunately, there was no welcome letter waiting for us in our room, just two small mini chocolates. Was that really the entire welcome gift? Who knows? However, the Grand Hyatt Berlin does offer a service to provide fresh fruit in your room upon request.

Bedroom
Behind the front door, you find yourself in a small hallway with the bathroom on the left. Straight ahead, you are already in the living room and bedroom. The room is not very large and is quite compactly furnished.

The television is placed on a low sideboard on the right-hand wall opposite the bed. The safe is in the cupboard, with the telephone on top of it. Somewhat lost in the corner is a glass table where you can eat and/or work. It’s the only possible location, but to be honest, it’s not very practical. The corner is dark and uncomfortable. I would not want to spend time here to work. The capsule coffee machine is on the table, too.

The king-size bed is really comfortable, striking the perfect balance between firm and soft. The fluffy down duvet is wonderfully cozy and is not tucked under the mattress at the foot of the bed. The two pillows on each side are the same size but vary in firmness.

On the side of the room opposite the window, the cupboard is part of the minibar with a kettle and crockery, as well as snacks available for purchase on the sideboard. The small refrigerator with cold drinks, also available for purchase, was somewhat oddly located in the side wall in the hallway, right at the corner of the room passageway.

Bathroom
The bathroom could be accessed from the hallway and from the actual room. When you enter the bathroom from the sleeping area, you will find a relatively small and compact washbasin with a sink and hand cream, as well as body lotion and various other amenities on the side shelves.
Straight ahead is the shower/bathtub combination. Behind a lockable glass wall is the wet room, so to speak, which naturally also contains care products such as body wash, conditioner, and shampoo from the Balmain brand. In front of the shower, the large towels lie somewhat strangely out of place on a swivel stool.
In the back corner, the toilet is installed in its own small room right next to the wall cabinet. In the cabinet, you can hang up or store your clothes. You will also find bathrobes, shoe horns, and everything you need to send clothes to the dry cleaner.

Turndown
Unfortunately, the Grand Hyatt Berlin does not offer turndown service, which we find quite regrettable for a 5-star hotel.
View
The view from our room on the 5th floor looked out onto the casino opposite and, thanks to the height, also offered a small glimpse of the surrounding city. However, the view from here wasn’t that good…

Lounge
When we checked in, we spontaneously decided to book Grand Club access for €90 per room. As soon as we arrived in the lounge, we were warmly welcomed by the two ladies that really well looked after us. The room, which is not too large, has a window front facing the inner courtyard and is otherwise a little cluttered and rather indecisive about what it actually wants to be, as an attempt has been made here to satisfy as many needs as possible in a very small space.
Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the snack hour. The selection was extremely limited and definitely not worth the price. However, the ladies working here are certainly underpaid—because they are absolutely fantastic! They made a real difference and were the true treasures of this lounge!

The Grand Club offers additional services at the following times:
Continental breakfast
Mon – Fri 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Sat & Sun 8:00 AM – 12:00 AM
Tea time
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Snack hour
6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Unfortunately, we have to say that this offer was the most disappointing. The only hot food was soup and puff pastry, and apart from alcoholic beverages, there was only a small selection of cold cuts and a handful of salads. Considering the extra price charged for this, I find it inappropriate.

Activities
Pool
The Grand Hyatt Berlin offers a beautiful pool on the top floor, integrated into the Club Olympus, with a fairly extensive sun terrace spread over several floors—even with a view over the rooftops of the city center. We had wonderfully hot days in June and were able to enjoy the terrace and pool to the fullest.

Gym
Also affiliated with Club Olympus, the Grand Hyatt Berlin offers a fairly large and well-equipped gym. The entire area can also be used by external guests as a day spa for €80.
Unfortunately, the gym was quite busy at all times during our stay, so we were unable to take any photos.
Spa
There is also a fantastic hot tub at the back of the pool room. One floor below, the wellness area offers a sauna, steam bath, and cold plunge pool in addition to the large changing rooms.

There is also a relaxation room next to the changing rooms.

The Grand Hyatt Berlin offers a selection of treatments at its spa, which must of course be booked in advance.
Restaurants
Vox Restaurant
In addition to breakfast, the main restaurant also offers dinner with influences from France and Japan.
Bistro Mitte
The Grand Hyatt Berlin’s bistro offers international and local classics such as pasta and currywurst. The restaurant is connected to the lobby and also has a beautiful outdoor terrace.

1838 Deli
This small but charming café has a cozy interior and a spacious outdoor area, so you can enjoy your coffee and a light snack in a pleasant atmosphere.

Breakfast
Breakfast was not actually included in our rate, but with the additional club access we purchased, we could choose whether to have breakfast in the lounge or at the regular breakfast restaurant, Vox.
We opted for the Vox restaurant because we didn’t really like the lounge and we thought that the food there (based on our experience the night before) probably wouldn’t be that good—which is just speculation, of course! We weren’t there, after all.

At Vox, we were greeted at the entrance and allowed to choose a table. Unfortunately, there were no regular tables available on the terrace, but we were able to sit at the open outdoor bar with a great view of the pedestrian zone. Egg dishes, desserts, and coffee varieties can be ordered at your table and will be served there. Otherwise, there is a relatively extensive breakfast buffet, which was beautifully presented and really delicious.

Of course, Fabi had an omelet with onions and I had scrambled eggs, followed by French toast for dessert. Everything was really delicious.

Check-out
The check-out at the Grand Hyatt Berlin was, in the most positive sense, the fastest in the world that has ever taken place at a counter. Everything was prepared, and because we had booked with points, we didn’t have to pay anything. No bill was necessary, so we were able to head straight to our next hotel.

Costs
We paid for this one night in June 2025 at the Grand Hyatt Berlin with a reward we received in the World of Hyatt program after staying 30 nights. It is also possible to receive such a reward every time you stay at five different hotel brands within the Hyatt family.
There were no additional costs. We paid the 90 euros for lounge access—which included breakfast—at check-in.
Onward journey
For us, it was only a 10-minute walk around the corner to the Ritz-Carlton Berlin. So we literally left one hotel and entered the next…
Our extended Berlin getaway weekend
We had a birthday to celebrate and chose Berlin as the perfect location. In addition to the Grand Hyatt Berlin, we will also be visiting the Ritz-Carlton Berlin and The Mandala. So stay tuned and join us.
Conclusion
The Grand Hyatt impresses with some real highlights: the sun terrace with pool and sauna invites you to relax, the breakfast is varied and high-quality, and the service is often good.
However, the rooms, which are clearly showing their age, were not entirely convincing – they are in urgent need of a comprehensive update. Typical 5-star standards such as bellboys, luggage assistance, and reliable turndown service were also completely lacking. The spa and fitness area is modern but very busy, as it is also open to external guests – something you should be aware of.
For us, the Grand Hyatt Berlin is overall a midscale hotel. It does not currently meet the standards of a 5-star superior hotel – too many small things don’t fit the picture. Nevertheless, we can recommend the hotel. All target groups – from solo travelers to couples to families and even business travelers – are in good hands here.
Go there?
Yes – with the right expectations. If you appreciate a pool, breakfast, and a good location, you will definitely get your money’s worth here. If you want a first-class 5-star experience, you might get disappointed.

Rating
We give the Grand Hyatt Berlin only 7 out of 10 possible points.
The lack of turndown service, the minimal welcome amenity, and the unfortunately very poor lounge on the food side each cost the hotel one point.
