Roomers Baden Baden, Autograph Collection, Germany 🇩🇪 – a beautiful hotel with lots of potential, but service that needs to be improved

Roomers Baden Baden impresses with its modern design and a great rooftop bar. Despite its luxurious facilities, it lacks a personal touch, especially at check-in. A hotel with potential, but one that doesn’t meet all expectations? Read for yourself!

Location

Roomers Baden Baden is located on the city’s arterial road in a north-westerly direction. The city center with all it´s sights is to be reaches within 15 to 20 minutes by foot. The Festspielhaus is diagonally opposite.

Arrival

In fact, the best way to get to Roomers Baden Baden is by car. That’s the easiest way and probably the way it was intended. There is a spacious underground parking garage situated in the basement. Particularly expensive cars are parked prestigiously in front of the main entrance. However, your car can be parked in the hotel’s own parking garage via free valet parking. Please note, however, that parking itself is subject to a charge.

Of course, you can also travel by train to Baden-Baden station. Or to one of the nearby airports, such as Stuttgart or Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden.

How to get to the hotel

It is a little tricky to get to Roomers Baden Baden from the airports. The best option seems to be to arrange a cab or a transfer. As already mentioned, you can park your own car directly at the hotel – or in the surrounding area. From the train station, most of the buses going to the city centre (which is basically all of them) take 10 minutes only to stop almost directly in front of the main entrance.

Check-in

At Roomers Baden Baden you are actually welcomed at the entrance, your suitcases are taken from you and you are escorted to one of the three large round tables where you are being checked in. Unfortunately, in Baden-Baden though this seems to only applies if you suite the style of the hotel, are driving one of those really expensive cars and/or have a big barfy demeanor.

As we arrived by train, unfortunately no one met us at the door or helped with the luggage. So we were a little lost standing around in the lobby until one of the two ladies asked us to sit at her table – neither table was occupied by guests until then.

Again, unfortunately, no “Welcome” or “How was your journey?”, just a prompting look. After the booking was found, we were (once again) asked if this was our first stay. And I can only ask: really?! You must be kidding! The system may have trouble showing this information, but this is the 5th or 6th time we are staying at this hotel. This question simply can not arise! The actual sentence should be: “I see you’ve stayed with us before. Welcome back!”

As I had already checked in online, I only had to sign the registration form. There was no request which of the offered benefits we would like. No “Thanks for being a Bonvoy Titanium member” either. Only when I asked later was it confirmed that breakfast was included anyway and that the additional 1000 points would always be credited as a gift after check-out. The requested late check-out could not be confirmed at that moment either.

Only when this short procedure was completed were we offered a drink. To be honest: that was much, much too late. Actually, this should have happened as check-in started. This ultimately gave us the strange feeling of disturbing the receptionists at her workplace as we sat there with our drinks. Not a nice reception!

We then sat down at one of the armchairs in the lobby to finish our drinks. The questions if we needed help with our luggage was unfortunately never asked.

And yes: all small things. Nothing too bad. True. But with the price that is being charged and the reputation that the hotel has, things have to be different! There are simply some critical points at guest services – the reception is one of the most important. And here this was a complete failure!

Hotel overview

The L-shaped building is located on the edge of the city and on the arterial road towards the highway. It offers 130 rooms and suites. On the first floor of Roomers Baden Baden you can find the lobby, Roomers Bar and the restaurant. The spa and gym can be found on the fourth floor, and the Rooftop Bar and pool are located on the fifth floor.

It should also be noted that the hotel is very pet-friendly. During our stay, there were quite a few dogs staying at the hotel. If this is a problem for you, you should bear this in mind.

Suite

Although we already checked in at around 1 pm, our suite was already ready and we were able to move straight in. That actually worked out really well.

The Superior room we had originally booked was upgraded by two levels to a Junior Suite due to our Marriott Bonvoy Titanium status. When we asked whether a higher upgrade would be possible, we were told that due to the high occupancy rate no other rooms were available. This of course is a absolutely correct procedure. Unfortunately, at least 6 other rooms in a higher category were still bookable for the two nights we stayed at the hotel.

I would have liked them to take note of the fact that we had already stayed at the hotel a few times and therefore take a more favorable view on the upgrade regulations.

In the end, this time we were given the Junior Suite (not Deluxe) with the number 403.

Welcome

Once we arrived at the Junior Suite there was unfortunately no welcome gift present. Upon asking, it was explained that they would be distributed later because we had checked into the room very early. Of course, that makes perfect sense! Absolutely fine. However, as we returned to our room after lunch, we were quite disappointed. There was a welcome letter and a bowl of red fruit. As we had been at Moxy Rust two days earlier and hat gotten a pack of M&Ms as a welcome gift – I´d say that that was almost a better option. And taking the hotel categories into consideration … a fruit bowl is a bit on the poor side in my opinion.

Living room and bedroom

Once you step through the door, you will find yourself in a rather long hallway. To the right is the entrance to the bathroom and then the closet. Here you will find the ironing board and iron, the suitcase rack, safe, slippers, everything for cleaning/laundry, a shoehorn and a brush.

Past the closet, you are already inside the actual living and sleeping area. Although this is a junior suite, there is no visual separation between them.

To the right is the very comfortable king-size bed with a large blanket and two different pillows on each side, as well as a chest of drawers with an integrated minibar. As the minibar is not included the prices, as well as various other information and menus, can be viewed on the room’s own tablet.

To the left, a small cupboard houses the TV and other storage options, as well as the coffee machine.

There is a table with two chairs and a sofa right in front of the window. Here you can eat comfortably or work.

Bathroom

The very beautiful and extremely spacious bathroom features a very open design. On the right is the washbasin with very neatly presented care products and necessary amenities.

On the left, a bathtub is set into the floor and right next to it is the large open shower, where you can choose between a hand and a rain shower. The whole room looks very neat, elegant, warm and cozy, even though everything is very clean and straightforward.

The daylight gets in through floor-to-ceiling glazing right next to the shower and bathtub. So you can see into the shower right from your bed. If you don’t want to be seen or see through this window, you can also opt for closing a double mirrored door.

The toilet is the only truly closed-off area within the bathroom. But be careful: the doors all are swinging doors and none of them can be locked. Not a problem for me. But I think that may well be a deciding factor.

Turndown Service

Unfortunately, Roomers Baden Baden does not offer a turndown service despite its luxurious furnishings, upscale ambience, exterior appearance and although it is also advertised -at least at the Marriott homepage. In my opinion that’s a real shame – this is simply a part of the service a really good hotel offers, regardless of whether it has four or five stars.

View

In our case, the view was out onto the main street. However, because of the high floor, we could see over the roofs of the houses opposite as far as the Black Forest.

Hotel activities

Pool

The beautiful outdoor infinity pool is located on the fifth floor and right on the roof terrace directly adjacent to the Rooftop Bar. This gives you the advantage of a wonderful view and ideally loads of sun to enjoy. But you also have to want to get into the pool only wearing your swimwear under the gaze of all the bar visitors. This can feel a little strange – depending on who and how many guests there are. And of course how confident you are…

Incidentally, the pool, like the spa, can be used until 1 a.m.!

Fitness Center

The small but excellent fitness center is located on the 4th floor at the passageway to the spa. Here you will find everything you need to get a good workout. Also towels, cold water and even nuts and fruit are available for you.

Spa

I find it a little difficult to really call the Roomers SPA a spa. I generally associate this term with a separate area where you can book beauty treatments and massages. Here, however, it is a large outdoor terrace with a small indoor area, a sauna, two steam baths and a whirlpool that is more reminiscent of an onsen. There is no real focus on the treatments here.

As Roomers Baden Baden, like all Roomers hotels, likes to give itself a sexy touch, guests are proactively encouraged to leave their textiles at the changing room. Accordingly, access is only permitted from the age of 18. The opportunity to move around in this area without wearing textiles is very popular – you should know that. I think that’s really great – but it’s not for everyone and if you’re traveling with children, it really is a restriction!

I would like to pay special attention to the two steam baths. The larger one even has a window onto the terrace – where else can you find something like that? Both steam baths are really well set up with lots of steam and are quite hot. The sauna also has a complete glass front panel onto the terrace facing the street.

An exciting feature that all Roomers hotels have in common is that there is always self-service ice-cold vodka, tea, water and fruit available at the spa area.

Touren

Baden-Baden is located in the middle of the Black Forest. Here you can go on all kinds of tours and hikes. Baden-Baden with its festival theater, casino, museums and sophisticated flair is just a few steps away.

Food & Beverages

Restaurant

The in-house restaurant at Roomers Baden Baden is called Moriki and offers Japanese cuisine. You can get lunch and dinner at this outlet. Breakfast is also served on the premises. Take a look further down in the text.

Bars

Roomers Bar is located on the first floor and opens onto the beautiful and spacious, lush green patio. Here you can spend wonderful evenings with good cocktails in beautiful surroundings.

Rooftop Bar, as the name suggests, is located on the roof terrace of the hotel and is THE place to be, so to speak! This is a fantastic place to end the day during summertime.

The indoor area is divided into a circular bar and a rectangular sofa area opposite.

There are various cozy seating areas on the terrace of Roomers Baden Baden. From here you can also step into the pool or simply enjoy the sun and the view.

Das Frühstück

Breakfast is served at the in-house restaurant Moriki at Roomers Baden Baden. You can help yourself from the buffet or order from a small menu. Drinks are served at the table. Water is already distributed on each tables. It’s great to be able to choose from two types of Crémant, and if you like you can also have high-proof drinks such as vodka already for breakfast.

Check-out

The check-out was a little better than check-in, but still far from perfect. Although the hotel was over 90% booked, only two out of the three front office desks were occupied. At one desk obviously things had to be discussed for longer, at the other the card reader somehow didn’t work properly. No problem at all. But being in a hurry was difficult. Unfortunately, again there was no brief eye contact to say: I’ve seen you.

When it was our turn, everything was well prepared and went super fast. We were asked if we had a car in Vallet Parking, but unfortunately no further questions were asked to help with our departure.

However, we were given two tetra packs of water for the journey. I always find that to be very helpful.

Costs

The costs for the two-night stay at Roomers Baden Baden amounted to just under 450 euros.

Departure and onward journey

As with the arrival, you can leave Roomers Baden Baden in various ways. For us, the train will take us straight back home again.

Conclusion

I have to admit, I’m very ambivalent regarding Roomers Baden-Baden as it has great potential. It’s a beautiful hotel and all the outdoor areas invite to linger and simply enjoy quality time. Being able to use the spa area until 1 a.m. is fantastic. But there is still so much to do in terms of service. Some areas such as the bar and (finally) the spa are already very advanced. But the rest is currently really quite not on point.

Unfortunately, I also have to state that I find some of the guest attending the hotel relatively difficult. But that’s really just my personal opinion and I’m sure others won’t aprove. But my impression is that people like to drive up here in particularly expensive cars and then wave big wads of money around. For my whole life, I have never seen such a high density of cigars as at Roomers Baden Baden. Older gentlemen with their polo collars turned up and younger Mallorca tourists with (apparently or supposedly) too much money seem to be particularly popular here. I can’t say whether they also stay here. But they obviously like to show themselves off here.

This may certainly have something to do with the town of Baden-Baden. But I can say from experience that it’s even worse at Roomers Munich.

Recommendation

Couples and singles of all ages are very welcome at Roomers Baden Baden. Otherwise this hotel is absolutely not suitable for families and certainly not intended for them. Interestingly, this time I saw two small children at the hotel for the first time. Apart from that, the place is frequented by a pumped-up and botoxed party crowd with too much money and a questionable taste.

Rating

With a heavy heart, I cannot award Roomers Baden Baden more than 7 out of 10 possible points. I think I have written enough about the reasons in this text. I really wish I could award more points. The potential is definitely there.

Go there?

I can’t give a clear recommendation. It breaks my heart not to be able to state a clear YES. But I simply can’t do that at the moment. Too much is not yet in the right place. But there are certainly many people who think the hotel is just fine as it is.
