At the end of this Thai Airways Business Class flight TG 941, what remains in our memory above all is a well-rounded travel experience – without any big surprises, but with lots of little moments that make this flight enjoyable. The route via Milan offers variety without being complicated. It is exactly that kind of connection which you don’t have to explain at length, but simply enjoy flying. And that’s exactly why it’s worth reading the report to the end. Have fun!

Arrival
As Germany’s largest airport, Frankfurt Airport is of course very well connected. You can arrive by car and park directly at the airport using various parking garages, but it is obviously much cheaper to park in parking lots located some distance away. These can be booked in advance, usually also offering a shuttle bus and mostly offer discounts for longer parking periods.
However, getting to the airport by public transport is particularly easy. The long-distance buses of various providers stop directly at the airport and of course you can also get to the airport by train. The long-distance trains stop at their own station right by the terminal and the local trains stop in the basement of Frankfurt Airport Terminal 1.

Departure airport
Frankfurt Airport is one of the most important air traffic hubs in Europe and Germany’s largest airport. Over 1,000 flights take off and touch down here every day – and the trend is rising. The airport features two terminals with direct access to international airlines and a wide range of stores, restaurants and services. Despite its size, everything is well signposted and digitally networked.

Due to its size, you should definitely plan enough time to get from A to B – the distances can be quite long. Especially if you have to cross the famous tunnel from the A gates to the B gates. The elevators down and back up, as well as the walkway itself, really take up a lot of time.
Terminal 1 is home to most of the major airlines. But above all the StarAlliance partner airlines – first and foremost Lufthansa, which boasts its major hub here at Frankfurt Airport. Terminal 2 is home to the budget airlines and those of most other flight alliances.

Check-in
I checked in early for both my flights via the app and was able to load my Boarding Pass directly into my phones wallet. As I was only traveling with hand luggage, I didn’t have to go to the physical check-in counter. If you have checked baggage with you but don’t feel like having a lot of interaction, you can simply hand it in at the self-check-in machines in Section A of Terminal 1. This option is a great alternative to the regular counter even featuring an area for premium class passengers.
If you check in your baggage, you will also receive a digital confirmation that your suitcases have been checked in and the number to track them online in the event of loss. Meaning your baggage slip can no longer get lost.
Lufthansa offers every person traveling in Business Class the opportunity to take up to 2 pieces of hand baggage and 2 pieces of checked baggage free of charge.

Security check
There are several ways to pass through security at Frankfurt Airport. We actually prefer the checkpoint in Terminal 1 A as there have already been baggage scanners for quite a time, where liquids and electronic devices can remain inside the baggage, which of course makes the check a lot more relaxed and quicker.
As at most checkpoints, there is an extra queue for Business Class guests, which is usually less busy than the Economy Class one.
However, there is a small pro-tip: you can use the pre-bookable slots from SmartWay – regardless of which travel class you are traveling in. These can be booked digitally for all passengers from 3 days before departure. However, the number of accesses per time slot is limited, so you should book as early as possible. In my experience, there is usually very little going on there and you are often even quicker than in the Business Class queue.
As always, I opted for the Business Class security check in Terminal 1 A on this Thursday and didn’t have to wait at all. There were 4 other passengers ahead of me at the actual checkpoint, but I was even directed to another checkpoint where I was alone. Accordingly, my check took about 2 minutes. Kind of record time!
Incidentally, you can also use the Lufthansa app in your flight for Frankfurt (and other airports) to call up the current waiting times at the respective security checkpoints in real time and, if necessary, adjust where you pass through security to save time.

Lounge
After arriving air side, I actually wanted to go to Business Class Lounge A13. However, it was being renovated at the time and was therefore not available. The other Lounges were too far away for me though, so I didn’t visit any on this flight.

Boarding Frankfurt
Our short, one-and-a-half hour feeder flight to Milan-Malpensa is being handled at gate A56 today. LH 248 takes us to the northern Italian commercial metropolis in a Lufthansa A320.
Boarding started super punctually and in an extremely orderly fashion. So I was able to board just a few minutes later as a Business Class guest boarding group 2. After a friendly greeting at the door, seat 3A was mine for this flight.

Feeder flight
The seat in Business Class on Lufthansa’s short and medium-haul aircraft is identical to that in Economy Class, except that the middle seat remains empty. Only the catering is a lot better, or actually available at all.
We left very much on time for Milan and had a good hour at cruising altitude for our service, which the 2 flight attendants managed very quickly in the very full 10-row Business Class. The small menu was served super quickly and the drinks service came straight afterwards. There was plenty of time and the drinks were proactively refilled several times on request.

Transit airport Milano – Malpensa
Milan-Malpensa (MXP) is functional as a transit airport, but not a classic European hub. Changing planes here is generally possible, but not always intuitive.
For me, however, the transfer was really super unproblematic. The airport is not too big and their new security and passport control was very unproblematic and quick. As a result, I was at the gate for my onward flight to Bangkok very quickly. Overall, Malpensa is really good for planned transits with sufficient time, but less so for very short or complex connecting flights, I would say.

Lounge Milano – Malpensa
Thai Airways does not operate its own lounge in Milan Malpensa, but Business Class guests can use the existing Lufthansa Lounge. However, this is located in the Schengen area and therefore before passport control. Unfortunately, I wasn’t aware of this, so I only noticed after passport control. Accordingly, I simply decided to forego the Lounge visit this time.
Boarding Milano – Malpensa
Boarding in Milan was actually the same as always with Thai Airways. Passengers with special boarding requirements or families with small children can board first in Economy Class, but Business Class guests are boarded in Group 1 – so in this case they can board at the same time.
The process went very smoothly and quickly, but as we were boarded from a bus gate we had to take the first bus to the plane at the same time anyway.

Welcome on board
After a friendly welcome on board, I was greeted at my seat with a hot towel and a welcome drink. Thai Airways always opts with a choice between champagne, water, orange juice or the Thai specialty butterfly pea tea. The latter was my choice because it always catapults my mind straight to Thailand!

Start & Routing
We set off a little late and first across the Balkans, Turkey and Azerbaijan, then across the Caspian Sea through Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Then along the north-eastern border of India, over a small corner of Bangladesh and Myanmar, to fly from the north-west straight into the Thai capital aiming at the larger of the two airports, BKK, arriving even ahead of the actual arrival time.

Cabin & seat
I was flying on this Thai Airways flight TG 941 from Milan to Bangkok on a Boeing 787 – 9. The front part of the plane between the first and second pair of doors is Business Class with a total of 30 seats. The rest of the aircraft is equipped with a total of 268 seats in Economy Class featuring a 3 – 3 – 3 configuration.

Cabin
In this aircraft, Business Class is installed in just one cabin in a reverse herringbone configuration and consists of a total of 30 seats. The equipment was still fairly new – but a new Business Class will nevertheless be installed in most of the airline’s aircraft starting from 2027. All seats have their own luggage rack located in the cabin ceiling. Nevertheless, the cabin still feels wide and high.

Seats
The seats in the Thai Airways Boeing 787 – 9 are, as mentioned, arranged in a reverse herigbone configuration. Meaning that all passengers tend to sit with their backs to the aisles. At the window seats, the feet point towards the cabin wall; in the middle seats, they point towards each other. Resulting in all passengers seateing virtually parallel to each other. All seats offer the same level of comfort and are quite spacious; additional dividers can be extended between the middle seats to increase privacy a little if required.
My seat on this flight was 16K – roughly in the middle of the cabin on the right-hand side of the cabin just by the window. The first impression was pleasant and it certainly offered more legroom than the offset seats on the 777 aircraft.

The armrest on the aisle side can be lowered to seat height if required and right next to it is an upholstered storage compartment that can be opened upwards. To the right of the seat is a small storage area including the magazine holder and socket.
Above this is the storage area and in the side panel next to the seat back on the cabin wall there is a stowage option for small items. Headphones and the amenity kit are stowed here. The table can also be extended from the side console. As is usual on this aircraft type, the windows can be dimmed electrically at the touch of a button.
The footrest below the monitor is upholstered and is shaped like a trapezoid located under the side shelf of the front seat. There is another stowage option under that shelf, which is probably mainly used for shoes.

Bed
The seat can also be controlled via the control element in the side console and moved into various positions at the touch of a button – including, of course, a completely flat bed within just a few seconds. Thai Airways offers an additional mattress base for all red eye long-haul flights. It usually is pulled over the headrest and rolled out over the entire seat by the fantastic cabin crew. Of course, there is also a pillow and a not-too-thin blanket for each passenger waiting at their seat. Depending on the seat configuration, it is of course a little more comfortable to sleep on your side.

Entertainment
The entertainment system in this aircraft focuses mainly on the monitor, which is located above the footrest in the back of the front seat and can be swung out of the seat at the touch of a button. In addition to general informations about the flight and Thailand, the system also offers a flight map and, besides music also series and movies. The selection was actually quite good and I was able to watch parts of the 3rd season of “White Lotus” – an absolute highlight for me!

Amenities
The amenity kit that every Business Class guest receives was created in collaboration with the Sirivannavari brand and consisted of a really nice little bag containing moisturizer, lip balm, deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, as well as earplugs and a eyemask.

Food, drinks & snacks
With a departure around half past one p. m. and a flight time of around nine and a half hours, Thai Airways offers a great service with several courses for a late lunch followed by the opportunity to eat various snacks throughout the flight. A very early breakfast is then served before landing.
The service started with a round of drinks accompanied by a small bowl of nuts featuring candied citrus fruits. This was followed by an amuse-bouche consisting of grilled prawns with pineapple and swordfish with marinated fennel.
The table was then set for the starter and smoked salmon was served with a frisée salad and focaccia. For the main course, there were three options to choose from: pork Curry with rice, shrimp omelette or beef Lasagne. And for dessert, there was a choice between a Biscuit with Limoncello cream or an ice cream – so both for me 😉

Chocolate and rice crackers were handed out for the night’s sleep.
And for breakfast, there were again three options to choose from: Scrambled eggs American style, fried rice with egg and seafood, as well as a waffle.

All in all, the service was really very nice and, above all, fast. Everything went really well and I felt like I was in really good hands.

Washrooms
There were a total of two lavatories for Business Class guests located in the front galley, which are no different from regular aircraft lavatories. Only an additional Eau de Toilette and body lotion are available for use.

Service
The service on this flight was excellent – fast, friendly and very efficient. Sometimes I find that the flight attendants at Thai Airways somehow don’t come close to that natural Thai hospitality. But the flight attendant assigned to me did a really great job and I had a really great flight!
Arrival
We actually arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok almost three quarters of an hour before our scheduled arrival time. Touch down was smooth as butter and after the usual rather long taxi to the gate, the passenger bridge was attached very quickly.
We were able to deboard really quickly through the front door and were inside the airport building in no time at all.
Destination airport
While we were still in the passenger bridge, a monitor already showed us the direction to the baggage carousel, including the number where our baggage would be delivered. Really great, no?!
Immigration with passport control can´t be missed and as a Business Class guest there is also a (somewhat hidden) fast track, where entry into Thailand is normally really quick.
Once you are through, your luggage is usually already on the luggage carousel and you can head straight out to the grab pick-up station and right on to the hotel.
During this stay in Bangkok, we went to the Royal Orchid Sheraton right on the river and the InterContinental Bangkok, before checking out hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Bali for you.

Conclusion
Business Class on this Boeing 787-900 from Thai Airways via Milan to Bangkok offers a refreshing alternative to the usual non-stop flights from Frankfurt or Munich. In particular, the reverse herringbone configuration of the seat and the generous legroom emphasize the positive flight experience. The friendly and efficient crew as well as the high level of comfort throughout the flight also contributed to the fact that this flight was a great experience and will remain in my memory.
The entertainment system was decent, the food was varied and very tasty, and the amenity kit offered everything needed for a comfortable journey.
The route via Milan may seem unusual for some travelers, but Thai Airways offers a unique Business Class experience on this connection that is definitely worth recommending. The connection through Milan can be an interesting option for those who want to try a different Thai Airways product, especially considering the comfort of the Dreamliner fleet and their excellent Business Class.
To summarize: A solid, pleasant flight in which clearly convinces with good care and good comfort.
Points
For this flight from Frankfurt via Milan to Bangkok I award 9 out of 10 possible points.
The only real point deduction goes to the seat and the bed. Here I would have liked a little more space for stowing and moving around and also a bed that would have added a few more centimetres in length. Otherwise, there is nothing to complain about on this flight!
Recommendation
If you are looking for a slightly different Business Class experience, the connection via Milan could be an interesting alternative to the direct flights to Bangkok. The seat and service made this flight particularly pleasant.
