At The Standard Hua Hin, eye-catching design meets beach vibe. Between stylish Suites, great service and a surprising amount of hustle and bustle by the pool, the question remains as to what this hotel actually wants to be. So let’s take a closer look together and then form your own opinion.

Location
The Standard Hua Hin is located directly by the beach, but still right in the center of Hua Hin. Meaning: a few steps to the sea in the morning and a short walk to restaurants, bars or the night market in the evening. The area is lively, but much more relaxed than many other beachside town in Thailand.
The stretch of beach in front of the hotel is wide and comparatively quiet, while you can reach the famous Hua Hin Night Market or the train station in just a few minutes. This combination of beach location and proximity to the city center makes the hotel perfect for anyone who wants to combine a beach vacation with a little city flair.
Arrival
The Standard Hua Hin is located right in the center of Hua Hin and is easily accessible from both Bangkok City and the nearest airport. From Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), you will need around 2.5 to 3 hours by car or private transfer, depending on traffic. Many guests opt for a pre-arranged driver here, as this means you don’t have to spend time negotiating or organizing at the airport.
Alternatively, you can also take the train from Bangkok to Hua Hin. The journey takes around 3.5 to 4 hours, depending on the connection. From Hua Hin train station, it is then only a few minutes by cab or even on foot to the hotel.
If you are traveling within Thailand, you can also use the domestic airport in Hua Hin. There are currently daily direct flights from Chiang Mai. From there, you can reach The Standard in around 10-15 minutes by cab.
Overall, the journey is relaxed and easy to plan – Hua Hin is particularly easy to reach by car or transfer. We traveled from our previous hotel, the Anantara Siam in Bangkok, to The Standard Hua Hin by grab in just over three hours.
Check-in
As we arrived at the hotel, our suitcases were unloaded from the car for us, but there was a bit of confusion at the driveway and entrance. There was apparently a large group leaving and so we didn’t know exactly where to go for a few moments and stood around a bit haphazardly.
A moment later, however, we were met by the Guest Relations Manager and accompanied the short way to the Lobby. There she and a colleague very kindly checked us in while we were served a cold welcome drink. She welcomed us as Globalist guests and listed all the benefits. For us, these included free breakfast, a 15% discount on spa treatments and an upgrade to the Standard Suite.

After the deposit was made, she asked us to take a seat in the open Lobby until she could be sure that the room was really ready. She then accompanied us to the Suite and showed and explained everything to us. We had a little chat with her and immediately felt very comfortable and at home.

The Standard Hua Hin at a glance
The Standard Hua Hin is a beach resort that opened in 2021 and is nestled in lush gardens just steps away from the Gulf of Thailand – making it feel more like a tropical hideaway than a classic hotel.
In total, The Standard Hua Hin comprises around 196 rooms, Suites and Villas, all of which are modern, colorful and feature classic The Standard design details. These include spacious standard rooms, larger Studio Suites and various types of villas such as Standard Pool Villas, Plush Pool Villas and Bayside Villas with their own outdoor areas and some with private pools.
The rooms are spread over two 5-storey L-shaped buildings at the rear of the property, with the villa ensemble extending to the pool in ground-floor and single-storey buildings. The entire hotel complex is rather cozy – there are no typical numbers of floors as in classic high-rise buildings.
In the center of the resort is the lively pool and garden area with sun terraces, loungers and a bar area, where you can relax during the day with drinks, snacks and music. Around the pool you will also find the restaurants such as the Lido for all-day dining and the Praça Beach Bar & Restaurant right by the water. The spa is, together with the gym, located between the hotel and villa areas.
Unfortunately, the square between the two main buildings acts a bit like a funnel and all guests from the rooms located in the two buildings have to cross it if they want to go to the pool, sea or restaurants. Unfortunately, from our balcony on the 5th floor, we could still hear every word that was spoken on the square and the surrounding balconies.

Suite
We had booked the smallest room category here at The Standard Hua Hin – a Standard King. However, due to our Globalist status at World of Hyatt, we were upgraded to the larger of the two Suite categories and thus booked into a Deluxe Studio Suite with Balcony. However, this is a really exceptionally generous upgrade, as there are exactly two Suites of this type in the entire hotel. One was already booked and we were given the second. So you should definitely not take this as a good example and don’t expect to be upgraded to a Suite of this type as standard!
So let’s take a closer look at Suite No. 501 together.

Welcome
A really generous welcome gift was waiting for us as soon as we moved into our room. In addition to a large bottle of Prosecco and two fresh coconuts, two bottles of water (one with sparkling water, one without), as well as a sweet and a savory snack were waiting for us. There were even two! welcome letters. One from the GM and one from the Guest Experience Manager. The fantastic housekeeping team had also written a welcome message on the mirror!
That was a really great welcome to this Suite. Many thanks again to the great team!

Entrance
Immediately behind the room door, you will find yourself in a relatively spacious entrance area where you can place your sunglasses, room key and similar items on a sideboard on the left. On the right is the guest toilet, which is also extremely spacious.

Living room and bedroom
A few steps further straight ahead you will find yourself in the combined sleeping, living and dining area. Directly in front is a small pantry kitchen with a high table and behind it, right in front of the window, is a large and really very cozy couch with a small table. To the right of the room you will find the bed with the desk integrated behind it.

In the small kitchenette you will find a sink as well as crockery and cutlery. There are snacks and some hard alcoholic drinks placed on the worktop and in the actual minibar, i.e. in the fridge, you will find soft drinks, water and beer as well as milk and a face mask. You can use all these things for a fee. However, you can use the kettle and the pour-over carafe to enjoy your homemade coffee for free.

Hidden behind the headboard of the bed is a small desk on which some information material, but also the telephone and even a boom box are ready for use. Opposite, to the right and left of the passageway to the bathroom, are the two open cupboards – interestingly, you can see from the built-in floor rails that these cupboards used to have sliding doors, but these have been removed. In this open area you will find the bathrobes, slippers, safe, hairdryer and laundry bag, as well as a beach bag and flashlight.

The rather narrow queen-size bed stands in front of the other window and offers two equally firm and large pillows per sleeper as well as a light comforter. There are no bedside tables. However, you can place your personal items such as cell phones, magazines and the like on the top of the headboard. This is also where the two lamps are located – to be honest, to me they seem a bit lost – and you will also find sockets here. There is also a reading lamp on each side of the headboard.

Bathroom
Opposite the desk, you enter the bathroom through a door. A washstand with just one washbasin awaits you on the left. On the countertop you will find soap and body lotion as well as various amenities and a make-up mirror. Directly next to it, the bathtub stands free in the room and offers the unique opportunity to bathe and relax under a disco ball.
The walk-in rain shower is openly installed in a niche to the right of the bathtub. There is also a hand shower and, of course, care products from their own brand are also available here. Somehow it feels strange to shower without being able to close a door – at least I think so. The toilet is located to the right of the entrance in its own small room.

View
The outdoor area, which is twice the size of the other balconies, is really beautiful, but apart from a small table with two chairs and a very nice double rocking chair, it is simply empty. In our opinion, this is a totally wasted opportunity to further enhance the Suite. What’s the point of having so much space if it’s not put to good use?

Turndown
The Suite is prepared for the night by the hard-working housekeeping team. The curtains are drawn, the bedspread is put to one side and the slippers are laid out.

Villas
The various types of villas are located in a relatively large area between the two larger buildings in which the rooms are located and the pool area. These can be reached from the central path and are scattered around their own small garden areas from which they are accessible.
It was interesting for us to see that the villas are no bigger than the Suite and especially the standard pool villas on ground level don’t really have much privacy. The pool areas in particular are usually quite visible from the canopy villas above. The only detached villas are the Plush Pool Villas and, of course, the Bayside Villa, which is located directly by the main pool, but is extremely visible from there and is really not even close to the beach.

Resort activities
Pool
The pool is located at the end of the elongated property, directly on the beach, and unfortunately gave us a strong lido feeling for the most part. It was very crowded throughout, correspondingly lively, and there were lots of families with small children in and around the pool. This actually surprised us, as the hotel brand actually stands for a modern, stylish and grown-up concept. We hadn’t expected to see that many families here – especially with small children.
The pool itself has an attractive design: Although the rectangular shape initially appears rather plain, the various fixtures in the pool create different areas as well as integrated lounging areas. However, the pool is not particularly deep. At a maximum of 1.30 m, it is just about suitable for swimming a few lengths.
The total number of sun loungers is limited and those that are available are usually placed very close together, so there is hardly any privacy. On the lawn behind the pool there are also some foam loungers directly on the grass, which were unfortunately quite dirty and added to the cheap lido character. Overall, there was a distinct lack of a high-quality look and feel here.

Beach
Directly adjacent to the pool area is an area that is separated from the actual beach by dense vegetation, but still offers seating and sunbathing options on the sand. However, a clear structure was not recognizable here either – everything seemed somewhat disorganized, almost randomly arranged and overall not very well thought out.

Like everywhere else in Thailand, the actual beach is not owned by the hotel and is therefore freely accessible to all bathers. There is a small hut at the entrance to and exit from the hotel grounds where you can leave your shoes, borrow towels and rinse off your sandy feet. The beautiful beach invites to take long, almost endless walks in both directions.

Fitness Center
The Standard Hua Hin has the smallest gym in hotel’s history. Here you will find everything you need for a very basic workout in the smallest of spaces. However, if more than 3 people want to train at the same time, it will certainly be quite cramped here!
In addition to the indoor area, there is also the opportunity to train on wooden structures in an outdoor area.

Spa
The Standard Spa is located between the two main buildings and the villa complex in a rather quiet and secluded location. In addition to the standard treatments, you can also enjoy special things like full-body mud masks and ice baths!

The hotel also offers you the opportunity to enjoy massages directly by the beach.

Special features
There are some (almost daily) special activities at the hotel. At the time of our arrival, for example, there was Flashback Friday, where a DJ plays hits from the 80s to the 2000s every Friday at the pool between 3pm and 6pm, while you can enjoy Cocktails at Happy Hour.
The hotel has also been named the most pet-friendly hotel in Thailand for 2025. So you can bring your pets (mostly dogs) without any problems.
The hotel also offers the option of renting bicycles to explore the surrounding area.

Restaurants
Lido
The all-day dining restaurant offers breakfast and Italian dishes throughout the day.

We ate here in the evening and were greeted and served in an extremely competent and really friendly manner. We even had two Amaretto Sours for Happy Hour, which wasn’t even on the menu. The food was decent – but nothing more.

Praça
The Beach Restaurant is also home to a bar and is housed in a small historic building right by the beach. Here you can sit in the small interior, the beautiful covered terrace or in the garden directly next to the beach and enjoy modern interpretations of Thai food. The Praça is open for afternoon tea from 3 pm until midnight.

The beautifully designed terrace also invites you to linger.

Lido Bar
The stylish pool bar offers small American and Thai dishes and refreshments throughout the day. Stylistically, this bar is one of the absolute highlights of the hotel for me!

The Juice Café
The small café in the hotel garden serves all kinds of coffee and healthy refreshments.

Breakfast
Breakfast is served in the all-day dining restaurant Lido at The Standard Hua Hin. To welcome you, you sign in at a small trolley and are then escorted to your table. Interestingly, things are exactly different here than at most resorts: according to the statement, it gets quite full from 8:30 am. However, we arrived much later, had no problems getting a free table and were even free to choose where we wanted to sit.
The hotel offers a solid buffet with various indoor and outdoor stations. Only the egg dishes can be selected à la carte and are served directly at the table. Coffee and other drinks are available from the buffet. A glass of sparkling wine is also available, but costs extra.
The menu is predominantly Asian. Everything tasted very good – I definitely ate my fill.

Service
All in all, the service at The Standard Hua Hin was very good. We were greeted warmly and served professionally everywhere. At dinner, the service was a little slow, but still okay. I would particularly like to mention the really great Guest Relations Manager, who really took a lot of time for us from check-in to check-out and gave us that real extra-special feeling. Great job & thank you!
Check-out
The check-out, like the check-in, was very friendly and professional. We were even seen off by the resort manager and were able to chat with him a little.
Costs
For this one night at The Standard Hua Hin, we paid just under 6440 THB, which at the time of our stay in February 2026 was equivalent to just under 170 euros. Mind you, this was for the smallest room category. The upgrade to the Suite came via the Globalist status at World of Hyatt. Also the possibility to have breakfast for free.
Departure and onward journey
We return to Bangkok, from where we take an extremely interesting route via Hong Kong and Shanghai back to our home airport in Frankfurt due to the Iran war going on at the time.
So we fly the route from Bangkok to Hong Kong in Ethiopian Airlines Business Class and the last leg from Shanghai to Frankfurt in Lufthansa 747-400 Business Class right in the front row! A new and unforgettable experience for us!
Conclusion
The Standard Hua Hin is another hotel that leaves a lot of potential untapped. The design is without question very successful, and the service – at least from most of the staff – was really excellent. However, we were particularly put off by the pool situation. The hustle and bustle there was so intense that we didn’t find it relaxing at all. Overall, the design concept seems surprisingly immature in some places, while in others it is absolutely convincing.
We therefore find it somewhat difficult to make a recommendation. I would generally recommend such a design-oriented hotel to couples or single travelers. However, there were a striking number of families with small children on site, which surprised us – we had obviously misjudged the concept in advance. We would therefore recommend the hotel to guests who like a livelier atmosphere and feel comfortable in a family environment.
On our EVRYWHRE internal scale, we place The Standard Hua Hin in the Lifestyle segment.

Rating
We award The Standard Hua Hin 8 out of 10 possible points.
We deduct one point for the pool situation, which really affected us, and another point for the rather weak breakfast.
Go there?
Well. As I said. If you like it lively with a certain design appeal – go for it. However, this is not a clear recommendation at this point
