Westin Valencia, Spain 🇪🇸 – spending the night in an old charming wool spinning mill

This charming city hotel has a rich history and is reinventing itself, combining classic style with a fresh design. The Westin Valencia boasts plenty of space and tranquillity, not to mention little wow moments such as a balcony Jacuzzi and white tea fragrance in the bathroom. So why was our stay not entirely without question marks? Read on to find out.

Location

The Westin Valencia is located just outside the Old Town, in a quiet residential area. It is just a 10–15 minute walk from the historic centre and the perfect spot for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle. The neighbourhood is also perfect for walks or a morning run, as it is located right next to the drained riverbed.

Getting there

Valencia is easily accessible by plane or train. From the airport, the hotel is a 25-minute taxi or public transport ride away. If you’re travelling by car, there’s also an on-site underground car park. Easy!

How to get to the hotel

Whether by taxi, Uber or public transport – travelling to the Westin Valencia is straightforward. It’s just over ten minutes from the main train station and around 25 minutes from the airport. If you’re coming by hire car, there are parking facilities right on site.

Check-in

Our check-in was a little bumpy – a trainee was new to the team and was just being trained. But hey, everyone starts somewhere. As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Member, we could choose between 1,000 points or free breakfast – and of course we chose breakfast!

And once we had gone through all the formalities, we were off to our suite.

Westin Valencia at a glance

The Westin Valencia is a classic grand hotel with 135 rooms and suites, housed in a listed building – a former woolen mill dating back to 1921 – which has been home to a hotel with a Mediterranean flair since 2006.

Suite

We were upgraded to a Junior Suite – thanks to the Marriott Bonvoy Titanium status. The room was in a quiet corner of the hotel with a spacious balcony. The style? A little dated, but with charm.

Entrance

As soon as you walk in, you realise that the suite is spacious. The entrance area is functional – not a wow moment, but solid. To the right is the hallway, opposite is the toilet, and right next to it is the built-in wardrobe. Everything is where you’d expect it to be – practical, if rather classic in appearance.

Welcome

The little welcome pack put a smile on our faces straight away. Chocolate, macarons and a handwritten card – simple things that make all the difference. A charming start to our stay and a sign that attention is paid to detail here.

Bed- and Livingroom

The centrepiece of the Junior Suite for us was definitely the combined bedroom and living room with a cosy king-size bed. The mattress? Really good – sleeping comfort deluxe. Visually, however, you can tell that the room is still in ‘pre-renovation condition’. Everything is clean and tidy, but more old-school than modern.

Bathroom

There is a single washbasin, but everything you could possibly need: Comb, toothbrush, vanity kit & co. Extra bonus point for the additional bathtub – the perfect way to end the evening in style.

Turndown

A little unusual: as we entered the suite, the turndown service was already done – at half past three in the afternoon. The room was completely darkened, the pillows fluffed up. We thought it was a bit early. Perhaps efficient housekeeping – perhaps a cost-cutting measure. But it didn’t feel quite right. Still, a nice gesture.

The Westin Valencia

View

The balcony? A real surprise! Really big and with a beautiful view over the surrounding neighbourhood. Not a postcard panorama, but still a little oasis. The perfect place to enjoy a sundowner or a balmy summer evening. And if you’re lucky, you might even get a suite with its own jacuzzi on the balcony – great, right?

Special features

And this really is a highlight: some rooms at the Westin Valencia come with their own jacuzzi directly on the balcony. Yes, you heard right. Whirlpool feeling under the open sky – at sunset or under the stars. For us, this is clearly one of the coolest features in the whole house. So if you book: make sure you ask for a suite with a jacuzzi – it’s worth it!

Hotel activities

Fitness Center

The gym at the Westin is a real highlight – large, modern and superbly equipped. A real plus for anyone who doesn’t want to miss out on their routine while on holiday.

Spa & Pool

Unfortunately, we couldn’t really test the spa – it was always busy. The pool is small but nice – if you arrive early, you have a good chance of getting some peace and quiet.

Special features

The garden area is a quiet retreat – perfect for a little siesta or a coffee in the afternoon.

Restaurants

El Jardin Restaurant & Bar

The newly renovated restaurant and bar at the Westin Valencia is a well-thought-out place where the food, drinks and atmosphere complement each other perfectly. It has a Mediterranean-modern interior with lots of wood and warm colours, and nothing is intrusive. Outside is a surprisingly quiet terrace which feels like a small retreat in the centre of the city.

The Spanish-inspired cuisine is pleasantly unpretentious. The seasonal dishes are well-balanced and unassuming — simply things you like to eat. There is also an excellent selection of wines, and if you wish, you can enjoy a tea or cocktail at the bar afterwards.

The restaurant feels less like a classic hotel establishment and more like a relaxed place where you might want to spend some time. It’s ideal for a relaxed lunch or evening drinks, or if you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle without leaving the city.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the stylish ‘Rosmarino’ restaurant. If you want, you can also sit outside – which, surprisingly, nobody did during our visit. The buffet had everything your heart desires: fresh fruit, pastries, warm options. Although there wasn’t a large à la carte selection, we were able to order Eggs Benedict on request – and they were really good!

Breakfast times:

Mon-Fri: 6:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Sat-Sun: 7:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Check-out

At check-out we were told that the rooms would be renovated soon – good to know, because there is definitely room for improvement. Otherwise everything went smoothly, the team was friendly and helpful.

Costs

We paid exactly 234 euros for this one night in March 2025 – actually without breakfast, but this was included free of charge due to our status. A fair deal for a hotel of this class in Valencia.

Departure and onward journey

After the Westin, we spent two more nights at the Palacio Santa Clara – an Autograph Collection hotel. Could the Westin keep up? Spoiler: The Santa Clara actually had the edge. Find out more in our review.

Fazit

The Westin Valencia has charm and style – no doubt about it. The garden, the gym, the quiet location, the good breakfast and the historic vibes all add up to something special. What we liked less: The somewhat outdated rooms (although this is soon to be renovated) and the location outside the old town – nice and quiet, but not super central.

The hotel though is not really suitable for families as there are no special activities for children.

Nevertheless: We say Go there! – for anyone looking for a relaxed premium hotel in Valencia.
