Getting there
Zannier Phum Baitang is located just outside Siem Reap, a small town in central Cambodia with a population of around 250,000. It is the ideal starting point for your discovery tours to the Angkor Wat temple complex or Tonle Sap Lake. In just 20 minutes by tuk-tuk or car, you can reach the heart of ancient Angkor with its many truly fantastic temple complexes.
The Phum Baitang Hotel is just one of six resorts belonging to a small but very fine hotel chain that is not yet well known. The standards in these small establishments is well above average and quite remarkable. The five sister resorts are located in Vietnam, Namibia, and the French Alps, among other places. All are characterized by local architecture and design and blend in beautifully with their surroundings.
The hotel is also Green Globe certified.
Arrival
When we landed in Siem Reap at the beginning of October 2023, we arrived at the small but charming international airport, just 15 minutes outside the city. There, we entered the country with a visa on arrival (approx. €30). Unfortunately, to the dismay of hoteliers and the local population, the small airport has now been replaced by a new, larger airport, which is a full 90 minutes away. Of course, we cannot (yet) comment on the procedures and processes for entering the country there. Due to the long distance, the transfer with the hotel’s own jeep is no longer included in the price.
How you get to the resort
We arrived by tuk-tuk from the Raffles Grand Hotel d’Ankor. The driver had a little trouble finding the hotel entrance. After driving along a gravel road for a while, we passed through a rather inconspicuous gate and were greeted by the security guard on duty. We then drove a short distance through the beautiful grounds to the lobby.
The distance to the city for evening activities is about 5 to 10 minutes by tuk-tuk, depending on where you want to go. It also takes about 20 minutes to get to Angkor Wat.
Of course, you can also arrange to be driven by the hotel’s jeep, for a fee.
Check-In & Welcome
As soon as we arrived at Zannier Phum Baitang, our suitcases were taken from the tuk-tuk and brought to the villa. At the entrance, a small pavilion with two benches invites you to take a short break. The covered path behind it leads directly to the beautiful, open, small lobby with only two tables, which serve as a reception desk and where our passports were quickly taken and checked. There are also two smaller seating areas here.
For the actual check-in process, we were then taken directly to the villa by a member of staff. We could have been taken there by golf cart, but we decided to take the very short walk so we could enjoy the grounds a little.

When we arrived at the villa, our suitcases were already there, along with a welcome drink with lime juice and aloe vera, fruit, and local sweets as a welcome gift. The sticky rice and the drink were delicious! As soon as we arrived at the villa, we were given an explanation of the delicacies, and while we sipped our drinks, the hotel employee completed the short check-in process.

Afterwards, we were given a detailed tour of the villa, during which we were shown all the features and rooms.
Zannier Phum Baitang at a glance
The grounds of the Zannier Phum Baitang hotel are designed to resemble a traditional local Cambodian village. The individual villas are scattered throughout the grounds, representing the houses of the village. They are arranged around the rice fields, which are actually used and form the center of the entire complex. In fact, the rice fields were “there first” and the hotel was built around them.
Water buffaloes, which live on the grounds, are used in the traditional way to cultivate the fields. You can watch the farmers tending and harvesting the fields and observe the water buffaloes at work or visit them as they graze on the grounds.

Zannier Phum Baitang has a total of 45 villas, all built on stilts. Twenty-five have a raised private terrace directly at the entrance. Twenty have an additional private garden with a large ground-level terrace, their own gazebo, and a private pool.
Everything was designed by AW, an architectural firm in Paris. The firm also designed the Four Seasons The Nam Hai and the Six Senses Con Dao in neighboring Vietnam.
Bicycles are also available free of charge upon request for getting around the entire complex.
Villa
The 80 square meter Terrace Villas are always grouped in pairs like semi-detached houses. We reached our villa, number 21, via a short path through the “garden.” A small wooden staircase led us to our covered terrace, where we stood directly in front of the large sliding doors, which serve as both an entrance and a panoramic window.

We entered and stood directly in front of the sofa with a table, which is positioned so that you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the outside. Behind it, against the wall, is the bed with two bedside tables. Four pillows and a large duvet are laid out on the bed for you. The bedside tables each have a lamp and power sockets for your use. On the left-hand side, there is also a telephone and a small notepad with a pencil.

To the right of the bed is a comfortable armchair right next to the desk. To the right of the entrance is a sideboard with a TV mounted on the wall above it. To the left you reach the bathroom, and on both sides of it are wall units.
There is plenty of space here to store your luggage. In the left-hand cupboard, you will find yoga mats, the safe, and the minibar. It is stocked with water, soft drinks, juices, milk, and beer. On the shelf above, you will find a kettle, coffee machine, and snacks. Further up, there are spirits and, as a particularly attractive eye-catcher, a wicker ice bucket and three handmade clay pots in which sugar, tea bags, and capsules for the coffee machine are stored. Except for water, coffee, and tea, everything else is not included.

In the bathroom, there is a sink with towels, water, and slippers on both the right and left sides of the doorway. On the right sink, the amenities are stored in a beautiful glass case. In addition to the standard items, you will even find a natural sponge here. Very cool!

The impression when entering the bathroom is really cool, and the bathtub in front of the window is a real eye-catcher. Behind the right-hand sink is the walk-in rain shower. Somewhat oddly, there is also a non-slip mat that you can place in the shower. This doesn’t really fit in with the carefully designed room concept. On the opposite side of the bathroom, the toilet is located behind the other sink.

The care products are from Sans Ceuticals and are really great and high quality. The bathrobes are hung up next to the bathtub. That’s a great place for them. They’re needed here, after all.

Turndown Service
As a 5-star hotel, Zannier Phum Baitang naturally also offers a turndown service. This means that when you leave the villa for dinner in the evening, the hard-working staff will come and prepare your villa for the night. The bed covers will be turned down. Water and glasses will be placed on the bedside tables, and the flashlight will also find its way from the closet to the bedside table. In addition, a pair of slippers will be placed on each side of the bed. All windows will be closed, and a small sweet goodnight treat will also be waiting for you.

The terrace functions as a large outdoor living room. There is a table with two chairs, so you can sit and eat or work here. But above all, it offers plenty of space and a huge sofa where you can make yourself comfortable. Everything is covered, so you can enjoy the day here even when it rains.
Right at the entrance to the terrace, there is a bell with the room number and two umbrellas, so that you can get from the villa to your destination reasonably dry in the tropical humid weather conditions.

The 130 sqm pool villas are basically identical in design to the terrace villas, only much more spacious and with the addition of a private garden with its own small pool. There is also a gazebo in the garden for villa residents to enjoy.
View
The view is mostly of the lush greenery of the entire complex. The villas located further toward the center also offer views of the rice fields. Depending on your taste, you may find one or the other more appealing. We thought both were really great.
Resort activities
Pool
The pool at Zannier Phum Baitang is located on the opposite side of the complex from the reception, at the other end of the rice fields, with a fantastic view over the entire central area of the resort. The iconic 50-meter swimming pool is home to the pool bar and the Bay Phsar restaurant, where breakfast is also served. During our stay, we were (almost) alone there most of the time and had the huge pool all to ourselves. Most guests are, of course, out exploring Angkor or Tonle Sap Lake during the day.

There are a handful of parasols on the terrace, each with two sun loungers for you to relax on. A towel is already laid out on each lounger, and if you want more, there are additional towels available right by the pool.

As soon as we had chosen a pair of sun loungers, we were greeted and before we knew it, the friendly staff member had already laid out towels on our loungers and provided us with a bottle of cold water and two glasses. Great service!

For those who are deeply in love or guests who want to retreat, there are also several gazebos to choose from at the head end of the pool.

We enjoyed a few cocktails and a light snack from the pool bar.

Gym
The gym at Zannier Phum Baitang is located in the Spa Temple complex. The room is sufficiently large and equipped with a few fitness and cardio machines. There is also a corner with free weights. Towels are provided, and you can refresh yourself with cold water and cold towels from a small refrigerator.

An open space surrounded by greenery a few steps away has been reserved for the daily morning yoga class.

Spa Temple
The Spa Temple lives up to its name and is a true wellness temple. Even the reception area is beautifully designed. Here you can arrive and check in, choose your preferred scent for the treatments, and wait to be picked up for your treatment.

The treatment rooms are small houses arranged along a lushly vegetated path. Some of them are even equipped with Jacuzzis. At the end of the path, there is an open room with loungers where you can relax with a cup of tea after your treatment.

The entire area is designed with great care and attention to detail – in keeping with the spirit and style of the Angkor temple complexes.Angkor.
Check out the spa menu here.
Kids’ Club
Here, the little ones (and those a little bigger) can let off steam under supervision or take part in various activities.
Tours
The hotel can organize all kinds of tours to all the local temples and, of course, to Tonle Sap.
The Angkor complex is truly unforgettable and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You can see a brief impression of our tours through the impressive buildings of this World Heritage Site here.
Restaurants
Bay Phsar
Just behind the pool, you will find one of the hotel complex’s two restaurants. Bay Phsar is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. It is picturesquely located at the rear of the resort with an almost magical view across the pool to the rice fields. Here, you can relax and enjoy a small snack or a full meal.

Breakfast is also served here. Further information can be found below in the corresponding section.
Hang Bay
Directly behind the reception area is the main restaurant for the evening. From this elegant room, guests can enjoy a view across the entire hotel complex towards the sunset.
Sunset Lounge
Not far from the lobby of Zannier Phum Baitang and the Hang Bay restaurant, there is a 100-year-old house right next to the rice fields that was saved from demolition and dismantled at its original location before being rebuilt on the hotel grounds, true to the original.
Here, the old house serves as a bar with a view over the rice fields and is the ideal place for a sundowner. Between 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., guests can enjoy drinks and the view here. The bar offers a wide selection of spirits, cocktails, alcoholic beverages, and, of course, soft drinks..
Private Dining Experience
Of course, you can also enjoy all dishes at any time of the day in your villa. The hotel makes this possible without any problems.
Pool Bar
Right next to the Bay Phsar restaurant, you will find the Pool Bar. Here, you can enjoy small snacks and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Breakfast
For breakfast, we first had to walk through the tropical rain, but thanks to our umbrellas, we were able to start a wonderfully fresh day reasonably dry.
When we arrived, only one table was occupied, and we were able to choose a nice spot with a great view. Of course, we were given a very warm welcome and asked what we would like to drink as soon as we sat down. We could choose from the usual hot drinks. We were also made aware of the Ă la carte options for food. In addition to this, there is also a very nice buffet. Here, there was a selection of juices, fruits, cereals with different types of milk, various breads and pastries with homemade jams, as well as hot breakfast dishes such as beans, sausages, and potatoes.

Check-Out
When we checked out of Zannier Phum Baitang, our suitcases were picked up by golf cart for the very short trip to the lobby. We could have ridden along, but we preferred to take a short walk to say goodbye to this wonderful place.
The process at the reception desk was very quick, and as a farewell gift, we received a package of rice harvested from the hotel’s own rice fields. This is a truly beautiful and sustainable way to remember the wonderful time we had there, even at home.
Costs
The cost of our stay at Zannier Phum Baitang in September 2023 was $385 for one night in the Terrace Villa. In addition, we spent another $74 on various drinks and snacks.
Onward journey
We then continued from Zannier Phum Baitang to the next hotel. We used the hotel’s service (which was still included at the time) and were driven into town to the Park Hyatt Siem Reap in a really cool old jeep.
Conclusion
The Zannier Hotel Phum Baitang is really great! We felt very, very comfortable and were well looked after by the fantastic staff. The service is attentive but not intrusive. The hotel grounds are beautiful and invite you to relax after a long, exhausting day of excursions to the various spots in the surrounding area.
Singles, couples, and families alike will feel at home here. The grounds are very spacious and the guests are spread out nicely. The pool is never crowded, as half of the guests can swim in their private pools and don’t even leave their own gardens.
Points
Today, Zannier Phum Baitang receives full points in the rating. A well-deserved 10 out of 10 possible points. Everything was just right: service, quality, villa. Our high expectations were fully met!
