W Prague, Czech Republic 🇨🇿

Iconic design and a strong spa including WOW factor

A hotel that immediately stands out: the W Prague combines iconic architecture with bold, modern design right on the vibrant Wenceslas Square. The service is consistently strong, personal and at a level that absolutely lives up to the brand’s claim. But THE highlight is clearly the spa – an experience space that is almost worth the trip in itself. The rooms, on the other hand, are rather compact and often do not offer a view. Nevertheless, the bottom line is a stylish city statement with a real wow factor that also has a few clear rough edges.

Location

W Prague is located directly on Wenceslas Square and could hardly be more central. The surrounding area is lively, urban and characterized by stores, restaurants and historic buildings.

From here, you can easily reach the Old Town, the Old Town Square or Charles Bridge on foot. You also have direct access to several metro and streetcar lines, which makes getting around the city particularly easy.

The location is ideal for anyone who wants to be right in the middle of action. If you like it quieter, you are better off staying in one of the more remote hotels – but if you are visiting Prague for the first time and appreciate short distances, this is the place for you.

Arrival

W Prague is located directly on Wenceslas Square and is easily accessible from Václav Havel Airport (PRG). The journey takes around 35-45 minutes by cab or Uber, depending on traffic. However, it can take a little longer, especially at peak times, as Wenceslas Square is very centrally located.

If you are using public transport, take a bus from the airport and then change to the metro. The nearest station is Muzeum, which is located directly at the upper end of Wenceslas Square. The journey takes around 40-50 minutes in total.

You can reach the hotel in around 10 minutes on foot from Praha hlavní nádraží main station or in a few minutes by metro or cab. The hotel can also be reached quickly from Florenc bus station.

We simply walked from our previous hotel, the Prague Marriott, and arrived at the W Prague in less than a quarter of an hour.

Check-in

We arrived at the hotel on foot and the bellboy met us at the door to take our suitcases and accompany us the short way to the reception. Once there, we had already learned a little about the history of the hotel and were given another friendly welcome. The check-in itself was unproblematic and went quickly. We were given hot towels and a welcome drink, which was created in the hotel’s own bar.

After we were handed our room cards, we continued our tour of the hotel on the way to our room. Once we arrived in our room on the 5th floor of the new building, it quickly became clear that we would like an alternative room – the view from both windows was of blank white walls.

The bellboy reacted really well and accompanied us straight back to reception. Once there, after some looking and checking, the nice check-in employee found another room, which however still had to be cleaned. We were therefore kindly asked to take a seat at the Bisou and were also served some small refreshments there.

After just 15 minutes, the new room was ready and we were even personally accompanied up by the receptionist to check whether we liked this room more. The beautiful room in the historic part of the building was wonderfully bright and open and we were very happy to stay.

W Prague at a glance

W Prague opened at the end of 2024 and is located in the former Grand Hotel Europa, an art nouveau building from the 19th century, which has been extensively restored and complemented by a modern new building.

The hotel extends over 8 floors (old and new building) and comprises a total of 161 rooms and Suites.

The rooms in the historic part of the building are located on floors 2 to 6 and are characterized by high ceilings and classic elements. The rooms in the new building are located on floors 5 to 8 and are more modern, clearer and have a more typical W design. The larger Suites are located on the upper floors, especially on floors 6 to 8. The rooms in the historic building always have the addition Bohemia and the ones located in the new building have the typical W-style names.

The Lobby, W Lounge as well as central bar and restaurant areas are located on the first floor and merge into one another – a typical W concept with a focus on social spaces. The spa and pool area is located in the basement and forms a deliberate retreat below the lively hotel activity.

All W Hotels around the world are currently undergoing a design overhaul and are being realigned for the hotels’ discerning clientele. The particularly bright colors and designs are giving way to more relaxed shades of blue, which are intended to make the look and feel more elegant and upscale. W Prague has already undergone the redesign and already shines in that new look.

Room

We also booked the smallest hotel room here at W Prague – in this case a Deluxe King room. However, the Easter holidays brought a huge number of additional guests to the city and so there was no Suite waiting for us as there were simply none available. Nevertheless, we were upgraded to a Premier King due to our World of Hyatt Globalist status. After changing rooms, however, we ended up in a Cozy Bohemia King located in the historical part of the hotel.

So let’s take a closer look at room no. 403 together.

Welcome

There was already a chocolate treat waiting for us in our room as we arrived. However, we had actually changed rooms at very short notice and so our actual welcome gift didn’t arrive until late afternoon. We were presented by room service with two ice-cold bottles of the hotel’s own Mufflon beer.

Living room and bedroom

A few steps further straight ahead and you are already in the actual room. The room is of course dominated by the large king-size bed against the wall on the right. Opposite the foot of the bed are a stool and a small armchair at a small table underneath the TV. A kind of mini desk is attached to the extension of the washstand. In my opinion, however, you can’t really work here.

Though, the light switch situation is interesting. This is particularly difficult when entering the room in the dark. You can’t really see anything and there are four identical switches arranged in a square to the right of the door. It is absolutely impossible to tell which switch operates what. So we always used the flashlight in our cell phone to figure out the right one.

To the left of the TV, the built-in wardrobe is cleverly hidden behind a mirrored wall. You’ll find everything you need here: a steamer, iron and ironing board, luggage rack and in the drawers a safe, slippers as well as everything you need to care for your shoes and have your clothes cleaned at the hotel.

The mattress was great and the bed really comfortable. The comforter was just the right amount of cozy and protected by another sheet in addition to the comforter cover. The two pillows per sleeper were the same size but very different in filling. One was firm and generously filled. The other was very thin and lightly filled.

On the bedside table on the left is a Marshall speaker for use and on the right, next to the telephone, there is also a pad with a pen, as well as the remote control and a display featuring a QR code, which provides all kinds of information about the hotel and the available services. In addition, induction charging areas for cell phones are built into the shelves on both sides.

The minibar is housed in a small box with a superstructure right next to the seating area. The capsule coffee machine, water dishes, snacks, wine and pre-mixed drinks can be found on the shelves. The small beige box contains the tea and coffee capsules. The fridge underneath holds soft drinks, juices, beer, wine and champagne. However, only the hotel’s own water, tea and coffee can be consumed free of charge.

Bathroom

The concept of most W Hotels is a semi-open bathroom. The small room to the right of the entrance door contains only the toilet and the walk-in rain shower. Here you will also find the davines MOMO care products.

However, the rest of the bathroom is located in the entrance or passageway area of the room, so to speak. The washstand with one washbasin is therefore only two steps away from the entrance door and, in addition to soap and body lotion from skin regimen, has a box with selected amenities ready for you. You will find the hairdryer in the drawer that has obviously been specially designed for holding it.

View

Of course, the view of the pedestrian zone directly in front of the hotel is a really great feature here in the historic part of the building. During our stay in April 2026, there was a huge construction site here – the streetcar tracks were being re-laid and it was correspondingly noisy throughout the day. But this should all be laying int the past at the time this review will be posted.

Turndown

In the evening, W Prague offers a turndown service where the curtains are drawn, water is provided on the bedside tables and a face serum from a local brand is placed on the pillow for each guest.

W Prague activities

Pool & Spa

The AWAY Spa at W Prague is located on the second basement floor of the new building. At reception, you’ll be asked if you’ve been here before and, if not, you’ll be given a brief introduction to the somewhat labyrinthine area. First you are led to the changing room – as all guests from the historical part of the hotel have to walk past the entrance, Lobby and W Lounge to get to the spa. Of course, this is not something most guests particularly enjoy doing while wearing bathrobes.

A towel, a sheet (for whatever reason?!), a bathrobe and flip-flops will be waiting for you in each locker.

Of course, the spa also offers the usual treatments such as manicures, pedicures and hairdressing, which are carried out in some kind of cages next to reception.

Children under the age of 16 are only allowed to use the spa from 9 to 11 am. The spa area is therefore (almost) adults only…

You then walk past the 5 treatment rooms into the actual WET area. Right at the entrance is a relaxation room with a kind of mattress camp. Here you can lie down, relax and get some water and fruit – if you like, you can also get a cup of tea.

Further back, there is a (not too deep) swimming pool on one side and a warm Jacuzzi opposite, where massage jets can be switched on at the touch of a button.

The sauna and steam bath are located at the very back.

A real highlight, however, is the sensory walk, which simulates the 4 seasons as you walk through them. You start with a warm shower in spring and slowly walk through the summer until the showers slowly get colder and colder in fall and winter is represented by a mountain of ice flakes. This short tour is absolutely perfect for slowly cooling down after a steam bath.

Fitness Center

Attached to the spa is the fairly well-equipped gym, which is, however, quite low and unfortunately not particularly large.

Restaurants

Le petit Beefbar au Grand Café

And what should not be missing in a good hotel? Exactly – a Steakhouse. This restaurant offers local and international dishes from lunchtime – especially for meat lovers. The fantastic two-storey room has been the restaurant from the very beginning and has therefore been a wonderful example of Art Nouveau furnishings for over 100 years.

Bisou

This area located just behind the reception is not staffed and mainly functions as a lounging area for guests waiting for their room to be ready. Beautifully furnished, it also invites you to linger and work here, or wait for the rest of your friends or family before setting off on another tour of the city.

W Lounge

Filling half of the first floor of the new building, the large Lounge is the cozy part of the hotel, which functions perfectly as a combination of Lobby and Bar. Here you can relax while having a coffee during the day and sit with friends or family for a delicious Cocktail in the evening. There is also a small outdoor area located in the inner courtyard for the summer.

Minus One

Located in the historic part of the hotel, you have to step down into the cellar – as is typical of Prague – to get to this Bar. Downstairs, the styling of this bar has something wonderfully mystical about it. The contrast between shiny tiles and cozy velvet-covered seating invites you to linger and lounge. The area is divided into two parts: the front part, which is more relaxed and invites you to sit together, and the smaller, darker part at the back, which is more of a real bar – including louder music.

Above Rooftop

Unfortunately, unfortunately, unfortunately, the rooftop bar at W Prague doesn’t open until May. We were staying there at the beginning of April and unfortunately couldn’t enjoy the view from up there.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served to hotel guests in the W Prague’s main restaurant, the Grand Café . We received a friendly welcome and were then able to choose a seat. Of course, the tables by the large windows are particularly popular and were unfortunately already occupied. So we chose a quiet table further back in the room.

The small buffet is complemented by an equally small a la carte menu. Hot drinks and the selection from the menu are of course ordered and served at your seat. For the rest, simply help yourself from the buffet. The service here, as everywhere else in the hotel, was extremely courteous and, above all, really fast. Very attentive and reserved at the same time. Just as it should be in a restaurant of this category!

Check-out

Once again, everything was perfectly prepared for check-out and the process itself went very quickly. We were asked again how our stay was and whether we needed any further assistance with anything.

Costs

For this one night at the W Prague, we paid a total of just under CZK 8900, which at the time of our trip in April 2026 was equivalent to a good 360 euros. Mind you, this was for the smallest room category. The upgrade to the higher room category was included due to our Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite status – as was breakfast.

Departure and onward journey

We walked a little further from here and arrived at Andaz Prague in less than 10 minutes. We spent another night there before heading back home.

Conclusion

To be honest, we find the price-performance ratio here particularly difficult. Sure – Prague is not really a cheap city when it comes to hotel prices, but 360 euros for a really small room without a view is tough and comes close to Paris or London. Otherwise, W Prague has already undergone the globally prescribed facelift for all W brand hotels and feels freshly renovated in most areas. The particularly successful combination of turn-of-the-century architecture with modern design language in the furnishings is really great.

The rooms themselves are on the small side, but that is also due to the history of the hotel. However, the fact that virtually none of the rooms, except those facing the street, have a view and that these are noisy at night because the streetcar passes by and there is a nightclub two houses down the street in front of which there is always a large crowd of people is of course not particularly conducive to general guest satisfaction.

In terms of service, the hotel was really far ahead and the staff were all extremely friendly and absolutely superbly trained. The treatment was without exception personal, but professional!

An absolute game changer for both of us was the spa, which of course invites you to relax and linger here for longer periods of time, especially in the cold season.

Accordingly, we can recommend the W Prague ideally for single travelers or couples. Families with children can also stay here, but the rooms are really not that big and the kids are only allowed in the spa area for two hours from 9 to 11 in the morning. I would rather choose a different hotel – for example the Prague Marriott Hotel.

On our EVRYWHRE internal scale, we place the W Prague in the Premium category.

Evrywhre categories

Rating

We award this stay at the W Prague a good 8 out of 10 possible points.

We deduct one point for the difficult price-performance ratio. The rooms are simply too expensive in comparison for what is on offer. Another point is deducted for the fact that the rooms either have no view or are noisy.

Go there?

So if you want a really nice hotel with a strong spa you can do that.
