Located in the heart of Bangkok’s vibrant Old Town, StandardX Bangkok boasts a rooftop pool with stunning views of the Chao Phraya River and a restaurant right by the riverbank. The rooms offer surprising designs and views, and throughout the hotel, colours, shapes, and art are incorporated in a relaxed, yet cool way. While it doesn’t focus on luxury, it scores highly in terms of style, atmosphere and authenticity.

Location
StandardX Bangkok is located in the heart of the vibrant Old Town, where street music, colourful bars and small cafés set the pace. The Chao Phraya River flows right outside the door and the hotel offers its own access to the ferry pier – perfect for exploring the city by boat. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, Bangkok’s famous temples and gardens are just a few minutes away: Phra Sumen Fort is a two-minute walk; the nearest klong stop is five minutes away; and the famous Kao San Road is a to be reached within a 15-minute walking distance.
Getting there
Of course, there are different ways to get to StandardX Bangkok. The easiest is to take a grab or private transfer from BKK or DMK airport, which takes around 45 minutes depending on traffic. For a cheaper, more authentic experience, take the Airport Rail Link (ARL) to the city centre, where you can switch to the MRT or a tuk-tuk. The final section can be covered by express boat across the Chao Phraya River, which is a charming way to experience Bangkok’s big-city flair.
We previously stayed at the excellent Hyatt Regency Bangkok and the beautiful Park Hyatt Bangkok, and arrived at the StandardX Bangkok by grab within about half an hour.

Check-in
As we arrived at the hotel, we unloaded our own suitcases and found our way to the Lobby, which wasn’t difficult considering the small size of the building. Once there, we were greeted exceptionally warmly. Everything was well organised and went very smoothly. A super-friendly member of staff explained everything we needed to know about the hotel and handed us the room cards in a lovely envelope. Inside was a small map of the surrounding area, the Wi-Fi codes and two vouchers for welcome drinks, which could be redeemed at the restaurant or the pool bar.

StandardX Bangkok at a glance
The small, former ver inconspicuous building, was completely renovated and in November 2024 reopened as StandardX Bangkok. Dedicated entirely to contemporary art, the ground floor features the reception area, a small café, a gallery selling art and a shop selling beautiful merchandise, much like a museum shop. At the rear of the building, facing the Chao Phraya River, there is also a restaurant with a terrace and its own access to the ferry pier. On the roof, you will find the pool and adjoining bar.
Incidentally, this StandardX in Bangkok is the second one worldwide, right after Melbourne!

Room
As usual, we booked the smallest room at the StandardX Bangkok. This time via the Hyatt website. Thanks to our Explorist status with World of Hyatt, we were upgraded to the highest room category: the Premium King Room with a river view. The staff reserved the best room in the whole building just for us. Being the biggest one on the highest, fifth, floor. Awesome, right?!
Room No. 505 is our home for the night – come and take a closer look with us.

Welcome
As we arrived at the room, there was no welcome gift, which is in line with the brand and price range and absolutely fine.
Entrance
When you enter the room, you find yourself in a small hallway. The bathroom is to the right, with the closet and minibar just beside the door.
The open wardrobe offers ample storage space for your clothes, and there are also kimonos and an umbrella (which we could really make use of!). The shelf also serves as a minibar, containing a small refrigerator, glasses, cups, water, tea bags, instant coffee and snacks. Everything except water, tea and coffee is subject to a charge. You will also find a safe hidden in the closet.

Living room and bedroom
A few steps further in, you will find the beautifully designed open-plan living area, which incorporates a bedroom and a work area. To the left of the wardrobe is a practical luggage rack with a TV mounted above it. To the right of the passageway is a chaise longue, in front of which there is a small table and two stools. Opposite the bed is a table with a chair, which you can use for working or dining. Next to it is an armchair.

The room’s standout feature is the extremely comfortable king-size bed, complete with two pillows of equal size but different firmness for each sleeper and a cosy, large duvet for both. The telephone is on the left-hand bedside table, along with a pen and notepad. On the right-hand side, there is a Boombox for guests to use.

Bathroom
The spacious bathroom has a washbasin, a sink and some standard amenities, as well as Davines soap and body lotion. To the right is a fairly large walk-in shower with a rain showerhead, and next to it, by the door, is the toilet. To the left of the bathroom is a freestanding bathtub!

View
As well as being a large room, the main attraction here is definitely the spacious balcony with its perfect view of the Chao Phraya River. Here, you can relax with a drink or a chat while watching the hustle and bustle on the water, and simply let the activity on the river pass you by. This is particularly exciting in the evening, when dinner cruise boats with live entertainment on deck also pass by!

Hotel activities
Pool
The pool is located on top of the roof terrace on the sixth floor of the building and offers fantastic panoramic views of the river and the surrounding neighbourhood. You can relax on sun loungers and, if you wish, watch the hustle and bustle on the river pass by.

Special features
One really cool thing is that you can walk straight from the hotel terrace to the ferry pier. From there, you can easily, quickly and cheaply reach some of the city’s biggest attractions by boat.

Restaurants
BANG
This all-day dining restaurant offers something extra special. The decor is stunning and you will always find something new to discover. But best of all, you can sit right by the Chao Phraya River and enjoy the view while watching the ferry passengers getting on and off the boat. The menu features Thai dishes with international influences.

We used our welcome drink voucher here and thoroughly enjoyed starting the evening with a view.

The Roof
StandardX Bangkok’s rooftop bar is attached to the 6th-floor pool and offers seating at the bar and under the tin roof, as well as outdoor seating with city views. Hotel guests can enjoy exclusive refreshments and cocktails from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The Box
Located directly at the entrance by the lobby, the Box is a coffee shop offering classic coffee specialities and small snacks, mainly sweet. It also serves as a checkout for the small but charming shop.

Breakfast
StandardX Bangkok serves breakfast in its restaurant, BANG, located directly by the river. It offers an air-conditioned interior as well as ample seating on the covered terrace.

You can order a selection of dishes from the menu and hot drinks at the table, while cold drinks and the rest of the food are offered from the small buffet. Everything about breakfast at this hotel is small but nice. I really don’t think we lacked anything at all — everything was absolutely delicious! The service was slightly reserved, but still satisfactory.

Check-out
Everything we needed to check out was ready for us at reception as we got there, and we also received a friendly send-off. When asked if we were satisfied with everything, we could answer with a resounding yes! and set off straight away for the grab.
Costs
In May 2025, spending one night at StandardX Bangkok cost us 5,491 THB for the lowest room category, including breakfast. At the time, that equated to around 148 euros. We were upgraded due to our status.
Departure and onward journey
We then took a grab back to Sukhumvit Road, which we all know well, and stayed at the Sheraton Grande and the JW Marriott Bangkok for a few more nights. Next, we headed to the beach in Phuket, where we checked out the Surin and the JW Marriott Phuket. On the way back, we spent two nights at the brand new sister hotel, The Standard Bangkok.
Conclusion
The StandardX Bangkok is a great mid-range hotel. Everything here was just right, and we felt very comfortable. Admittedly, the décor isn’t overly lavish or luxurious, but the various art objects and great murals throughout the building reminded me of the 25hours hotels around the world. The hotel’s use of colours and shapes is relaxed yet effective, making it refreshingly different.
We would highly recommend the StandardX Bangkok to anyone looking for an affordable yet stylish place to stay in the heart of the Thai capital. Its location by the river is fantastic, with many attractions within easy reach. We therefore recommend it wholeheartedly and say: Go there!
On our internal EVRYWHRE scale, we place the hotel in the Lifestyle category.

Rating
We are pleased to award StandardX Bangkok a well-deserved 10 out of 10 possible points.
The hotel has got everything right for its target audience and price category. Congratulations — this new opening is a real success!
