Location
Alila Bangsar is located above the rooftops of the district of the same name in the Malaysian capital and therefore in one of the city’s most exciting food and design hotspots. Bangsar Quarter is known for its cafĂ©s, boutiques and small bars – and that’s exactly the feeling you get around the hotel. Kuala Lumpur Sentral train station is just a few minutes away, giving you the perfect connection in all directions. An ideal location for anyone who wants to experience Kuala Lumpur in a trendy, relaxed and well-connected way.
Arrival
The easiest way to reach Alila Bangsar from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is by taxi or Grab; depending on traffic, the journey usually takes 45 – 60 minutes. If you prefer to use the KLIA Ekspres, you can be at KL Sentral station in around 30 minutes. From there, take the LRT one stop to Bangsar and walk the remaining few minutes to the hotel. For the complete route with express train and change you need about 50 – 65 minutes in total.
If you are traveling to Kuala Lumpur by train or long-distance bus, you will often end up in KL Sentral anyway. From there, as described above, you can quickly reach Alila Bangsar. Thanks to its proximity to the train station, the onward journey is short and uncomplicated – regardless of whether you are coming from the city or the airport.
Check-in
We arrived at the hotel by grab from our previous stay at the Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, at around 1 pm. At first we were a little confused – as the hotel is located in a building that also houses apartments the hotel entrance was not that easy to be found at first glance. We were then directed to the correct entrance while still being in the car.
Once there, we received a friendly welcome from the bellboy, our luggage was unloaded and stored straight away. We were then led through the Lower Lobby to the elevator – which in turn took us directly to the actual Lobby on the 41st floor without any further stops. Once at the top, the hotel seemed almost deserted at first, until several employees finally appeared at the check-in desk.
The check-in itself was warm and efficient. We were greeted very friendly once again and all the additional benefits of our booking were also proactively counted out. We had applied a Guest of Honor certificate when booking so breakfast and late check-out were already included. After that our room cards were handed out and we were shown the way to the elevators. Unfortunately, compared to other Alila hotels, there was neither a welcome drink nor a refreshing towel upon checking in.
Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur at a glance
Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur is located in a mixed-use residential building, which clearly sets it apart from classic city hotels. The hotel has a total of 146 rooms and Suites spread over the top 5 floors of the building, i.e. floors 35 to 40. The Lobby is located on floor 41.
In addition to some rooms, the pool, pool bar and fitness center are also located on level 40. The other rooms and Suites are spread over the floors down to the 35th floor. There are small communal areas with seating, coffee machines, water dispensers and snacks by the elevators on each individual floor. Quite unique and really great, we think!
The all-day dining and breakfast restaurant Botanic & Co. is located on the first floor and is used by both hotel guests and residents of the building. Overall, the hotel presents itself as an urban design house with an elegant feel.
Suite
As usual we booked the cheapest room category here, i.e. 1 King Bed Studio, but the stay was, as mentioned, upgraded with a Guest of Honor certificate from the World of Hyatt program. This made it possible to get upgraded to a Junior Suite.
So Junior Suite No. 3511 is ours for the coming night – let’s take a closer look.
Welcome
No welcome gift was yet prepared as we moved into the Junior Suite, but during the evening a small sweet gift was prepared to be waiting in our room upon our return along with a personal, handwritten welcome letter.
Entrance
Directly behind the Suite entrance door, you will find yourself in a small entrance area featuring a dining table and three chairs to the left right in front of the window.
The minibar can be found on the right just behind the room door. There are two bottles of water and two glasses on the worktop. Inside the drawers below are the kettle, cups and the ice cooler. You will also find the empty small fridge here. The rest of the minibar contents, such as coffee, tea and the like, can be found at the service stations by the elevators.
Living room
Straight ahead in this Junior Suite is the living area, which has a couch that is deliberately positioned towards the window to make the most of the views outside. The living area is complemented by a desk at the end of the room, which fits perfectly well into the alcove and is ideal for concentrating on work. This area is separated from the bedroom by a partially glazed recessed wall.
Bedroom
The bedroom is of course mainly dominated by the king-size bed. This very comfortable bed had two pillows on each side with slightly different firmness levels. There was also one large blanket. On the bedside tables were the telephone on the left, including the obligatory notepad with pen, and the remote control on the right. Also there are sockets and individually controllable reading lamps on both sides.
Opposite the foot end of the bed is the TV set on top of a sideboard which is placed in front of the partition wall.
To the left of the bed, on the wall to the bathroom, is the built-in wardrobe. Here you will find the slippers, bathrobes, safe, ironing board and iron, as well as a scale, everything you need to have your clothes dry cleaned on site and, of course, enough space to store the clothes you have brought with you.
Bathroom
The bathroom is accessible from the hallway and the bedroom. It is functional, but actually has an unusual layout. If you enter from the bedroom, you will find the huge washbasin with attached shelf to your left. Here you will find all the usual amenities. There is also a walk-in rain shower and a separate toilet. Alila’s own care products, such as shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hand wash and body lotion, are of course also available at the washbasin and in the shower.
View
The view from the room is mainly of a residential area and there are no landmarks or sightseeing highlights to be seen in the immediate vicinity. Nevertheless, there is a beautiful view towards Merdeka 118 and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Hotel activities
Pool
The pool is located on level 40 and has an open design. It is located in the middle of the building and is therefore well protected from wind and weather. You can also reach it by walking down a beautiful staircase surrounded by greenery starting from the Lobby. The atmosphere is pleasantly cozy and somehow homely, but the water temperature is rather cool, so swimming wasn’t really an option for us during our stay. Of course, you can also enjoy the great view across the city from up here. There are a few sun loungers available, but they are all sheltered in the open interior, which of course means that sun worshippers will have to take it easy here.
Fitness Center
The gym is located right next to the pool area and is well equipped for a regular workout. Towels and water are available to all guests.
Special features
A rooftop bar used to exist, but has been permanently closed since COVID. Unfortunately, we were unable to visit the terrace, but both agreed that the view is certainly incomparable. So what a shame to not have this venue open then.
Restaurants
Entier
This French restaurant on Lobby Level offers lunch and dinner with views from the 41st floor. There is also a separate bar in the outdoor area.
Botanica & Co
The hotel houses the all-day dining restaurant botanica & co on the first floor of the building. With its many plants, this outlet is designed to give the impression of being inside a greenhouse. Asian and international dishes are served and the restaurant can also be used by the Residences. Unfortunately, we have no idea why the main restaurant is actually located on the first floor – literally 35 floors down from the actual hotel.
Pool Bar
There is also a small bar by the pool featuring nice seating options where you can order drinks and snacks throughout the day.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served at the all-day-dining restaurant botanica & co. on the first floor at Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur. For us, this fact meant that we first had to go up 5 floors to get to the Lobby, only to be able to travel the 41 floors down to the first floor. Why breakfast is not served in the Entier restaurant next to the Lobby was unfortunately completely beyond us – but so be it.
A small but well put together Buffet is offered for breakfast, as well as an Ă la carte selection. The taste of the breakfast was good, but not outstanding. Hot drinks and selected dishes from the menu are ordered and served at your table. For the rest, simply help yourself to the Buffet.
Check-out
Late check-out was included as part of the booking – which was a great fit for us so we didn’t check out until 4 pm without any further problems. The check-out process was friendly and smooth – we were in the elevator on our way down to the exit in no time.
Costs
The cost for this one night at Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur was 425 Malaysian Ringgit, which in November 2025 was equivalent to around 90 euros. Breakfast and the upgrade to the Junior Suite were possible thanks to the applied Guest of Honor certificate.
Departure and onward journey
From here, we continued by grab towards KLIA International Airport, from where we continued our journey to Bali. On a Singapore Airlines flight with a stopover in Singapore, so we arrived in Denpasar in the late afternoon. There we checked out the W Seminyak, as well as its sister hotel to this one – Alila Seminyak and the Nirjhara, before traveling on to Bangkok for two final nights and testing the Waldorf Astoria and the St. Regis for you.
Conclusion
Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur is a solid, modern city hotel in the upscale segment with good connections and fair prices. The room layout and concept are unusual in places, but coherent overall.
We can actually recommend Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur to all travelers. Single and business travelers are just as well catered for here as couples. Families can also have a good stay here, even if there are no special rooms or similar facilities available for the small ones.
We have placed this hotel in the Midscale segment on our EVRYWHRE internal scale. In terms of the general rating, it simply fits better at the lower end of the 5-star category – which in no way means that the hotel is bad. We simply think that this is the target group.
Rating
We award Alila Bangsar Kuala Lumpur a well-deserved 9 out of 10 possible points for this stay.
Only one point is deducted due to the breakfast logistics with the need to go up and down the elevators.
