Location

Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is enthroned at the very top of Merdeka 118 Tower – one of the most striking buildings on the cities skyline and currently the second tallest building in the world. The Kuala Lumpur district surrounding the skyscraper is in a state of flux: modern architecture meets classic old town streets. The proximity to historic Merdeka Square and Chinatown ensures easy access to to culture, food markets and sightseeing spots simply walking there. At the same time, you are well connected by MRT and LRT. So this location combines modern luxury with historical highlights.

Arrival

From Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) , the quickest way to get to Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is by taxi or a grab service. Depending on the time of day and traffic, you should allow around 45 – 60 minutes for this ride. If you prefer to travel by train, take the KLIA Ekspres at the airport and you will be at KL Sentral station in around 30 minutes. From there, take the MRT or LRT to the city center. A short cab or grab ride will then take you directly to the hotel. Overall, the journey by express train and the necessary transfers usually takes between 50 and 70 minutes.

If you arrive in Kuala Lumpur by train or long-distance bus, you will also be at your hotel quickly. From KL Sentral or other central train stations, the well-developed light rail network connects you conveniently with the city center; the last section is easiest by cab.

We arrived by grab at Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur from our previous hotel, the small but nice The Chow Kit on the other side of the city center, and it took us less than ten minutes to get there.

Check-in

As we arrived at Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur within the Merdeka 118 Tower, we were a little surprised that there was so little going on. The building is still brand new and not much is open apart from the hotel, but we still expected a few more people to be out and about.

At the hotel entrance, we were greeted warmly at the car, our luggage was unloaded and stored immediately. We were then led through the huge atrium and shown the way up the escalators to the elevators. The concierge team’s counter is set up at the top landing. From here, the elevator takes us one stop up to the 75th floor, where the actual Lobby is located.

The reception is immediately to the left of the elevator. Once there, we were greeted very friendly once again and checked in without any further problems. As we arrived at the hotel quite early – around 1pm – our Suite was not yet ready for us to move into. During check-in procedure we were also given a letter listing all benefits of the Preferred Partner Rate we had booked.

As we still had to wait to move into our Suite, we were seated at the hotel bar and invited for a welcome drink. Interestingly, neither a welcome drink nor a cold towel was given out as a standard at check-in.

Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur at a glance

Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, which only opened in August 2025, is located on the upper floors of Merdeka 118. An information board in front of the building indicates the dimensions of the tower and at almost 680 meters – only the Burj Khalifa is even higher. The hotel is Hyatt’s newest high-end property in Kuala Lumpur and offers 252 rooms including 27 Suites.

The rooms and Suites are located on floors 100 to 112 and run all the way around the hotel, offering different views of Kuala Lumpur depending on their location in the building. The hotel includes the Park Lounge as an all-day dining and breakfast restaurant, the Merdeka Grill and the Cacao Mixology & Chocolate Bar, which are located along with the Lobby on floor 75. There is also a gym and a 30-meter long, heated indoor pool on the 99th floor. Another restaurant, which is supposed to be part of the observation deck, was still being planned and not open the time we visited in November 2025.

Suite

As we mostly do, we have booked the lowest room category here at Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur – in this case a 1 King Bed room. In addition to the booked Hyatt Privé rate, we also submitted a Suite Night Upgrade Certificate, which was granted and booked us directly into a Park Suite King. On the way there, we noticed that in the elevator all you have to do is tap your room card at the reader and you will automatically be taken to the floor your room is at. Unless of course you want to go to the gym, pool or spa.

So we travel to floor 102 all automated and will now take a closer look at Suite No. 10210.

Welcome

As we arrived at the Suite, there was already a rather extensive welcome gift waiting for us set up on the table. In addition to a bar of chocolate, which apparently every guest receives, the additional gift from the Hyatt Privé rate consisted of a handwritten card, an etagere with chocolates in two varieties, as well as small savory treats, even more chocolates presented inside two glass containers and a non-alcoholic Dragon Pearl Jasmine Sparkling Tea from Hong Kong.

We were really impressed and also a little stunned by the sheer size and number of gifts provided. Well done Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur!

Entrance

Just behind the room door you can already see how spacious the Suite is and you enter into a fairly generous entrance area. There is plenty of space here to arrive and, if you wish, welcome guests. To the left is the living room and straight ahead is the closet with bedroom and bathroom – in other words, the private areas are somewhat separated from the rest of the Suite.

Directly in the entrance area on the right is also a separate guest toilet with a heated Toto toilet, a full-length mirror and lots of beautiful design.

To the left of the entrance area is a small bar area with a counter and integrated minibar. In the bar area, a Nespresso machine including Nespresso capsules is ready to hand, as well as the fridge drawer, which is filled with soft drinks, water, but also alcoholic beverages and small sweets, which are all of course subject to a charge.

Living room

There is also a bistro table with two chairs next to the bar counter, which is of course ideal for enjoying a small meal.

Behind this is the actual living area, which consists of a huge couch with a low table, armchair and stool. The TV is mounted on the wall opposite, above a sideboard.

But of course the real star of the room is the view. Admiring the city views from the 102nd floor is simply unique. There are also leather seat cushions on the bench in front of the window front, inviting you to linger and really take in the view.

Whether the hotel has done itself such a big favor with the chosen materials though, we don’t really know – the wood looks really noble, beautiful and above all high-quality, but it might be rather difficult to keep the level so fresh over the years and to always quickly remove the inevitable signs of wear.

Cupboard

The open walk-in closet is located directly adjacent to the bedroom. On the left are a few compartments, the safe and drawers, as well as a luggage rack and a clothes rail. To the right, you will find a bathrobe, as well as a luggage rack and clothes rail. Straight ahead, a dressing table is set up in front of a fully glazed wall. The room is actually really beautiful and even has a carpet that makes it almost feel cozy here.

Bedroom

A little further on is the elegant bedroom, which offers an even better view of the city than from any other room in the Suite thanks to its corner location. The dominant king-size bed has a total of four pillows, two of which are slightly fuller and two softer. On the bedside table on the left you will find the telephone with the obligatory notepad and pen and on the right side of the bed is a clock radio with charging function. There are individually controllable lamps on both sides also you can of course also charge your electronic devices here and control the room lighting via light switches.

As in the living room, there are deep window sills which you can also sit on in front of the large windows. In addition, the TV is positioned opposite the foot end of the bed and in front of the windows. As in the entire Suite, the curtains can of course be controlled fully electronically.

The swinging doors to the living area make the bedroom appear rather open at first, but can be closed if you want more privacy.

Turndown

Back in the Suite in the evening, the turndown service had already been carried out, with the privacy screen lowered, the bed uncovered a little and water provided on both bedside tables. As a little extra, there was a gift fan with a tropical design to remind you of your stay here and there was also a good-night spray to help you fall asleep.

Bathroom

The master bathroom is located directly behind the bed, so to speak. The washstand with the two washbasins offers plenty of space and the amenities, as well as the hairdryer, can be found in the central drawer.

Opposite the washbasin is a sideboard with storage space and large towels. The free-standing bathtub is installed in front of the floor-to-ceiling window front. In addition to bath salts, you will also find an XXL loofah sponge and the second bathrobe.

The partially glazed, very large walk-in rain shower is installed right next to the bathtub. The shampoo, body wash and conditioner from Le Labo with their famous bergamot fragrance are available here in this shower with a very striking design featuring golden tiles.

We were also presented a scented pad as we were shown around the Suite, which promised a steam bath feeling inside the shower. However, the result fell short of expectations – at least it didn’t really work for us. But maybe we just didn’t know how to do it right…

Right next to the shower is a second toilet – also a high-tech Japanese product.

View

The view from the Suite is of course really great and an absolute highlight. Sure, you have to be pretty much free from giddiness to look down. But if you can, the view from the 102nd floor is truly incomparable!

Resort activities

Pool

On the 99th floor of the hotel there is a 30 meter long, heated indoor pool, which as part of the spa area, of course also offers a fantastic view! In addition to a small hot tub, the area also offers heated marble loungers.

There is also a specially equipped salt room with Himalayan salt to help clear the airways.

Fitness Center

The hotel gym is also part of the spa area on the 99th floor and offers a good selection of equipment. In addition to cardio equipment and muscle machines, there is also a large free weights area and a classroom.

Spa

Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur occupies the entire 99th floor of the Merdeka Tower with The Spa. In addition to the classic spa treatments, the hotel also offers an indoor pool, a gym, a hot tub and a salt room.

Special features

The absolute special feature of the hotel is certainly that the Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is located inside Merdeka 118 Tower, which has been the second tallest building in the world since August 2025. Located at the top of the tower, it offers a unique view of the Malaysian capital.

Restaurants

Merdeka Grill

The restaurant is located on the Lobby Level, on the 75th floor of the building. As the name suggests, the focus here is on barbecue specialties. The room is very beautiful and elegant. Fabi had a salmon fillet with caviar and matching gnocchi with pesto, which was served at the table. The quality was exceptionally good and the taste was a hit. When we spontaneously tried to make a reservation in the evening, we got the penultimate free table – so the restaurant seems to already be a crowd favorite.

However, I also have to mention that the prices here are correspondingly high and our 100 USD credit wasn’t even enough for this one dinner. So keep that in mind when deciding on dining here!

Park Lounge

The Park Lounge is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant and offers the opportunity to eat here all day long. International and Asian food is on offer – including traditional Malaysian dishes of the highest standard. A first-class afternoon tea is also offered here.

Cacoa Mixology & Chocolate

Like all the other restaurants, the bar is located on the 75th floor. You can enjoy cocktails and desserts made from homemade chocolate here starting from the afternoon until late in the evening. Fabi had a Gin Fizz with small salty snacks before dinner and we were given a refreshing towel and an alcoholic chocolate shot as a welcome. The bar fits seamlessly into the design of the hotel and of course you can also enjoy the fantastic view from here.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the Park Lounge on the 75th floor at the Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur. You can choose from a buffet and a rather large à la carte selection. Hot drinks and fresh dishes from the menu can be ordered at your seat and will of course be served there. For the rest, simply help yourself to the buffet. We found the quality of both options to be really good. As always, we had Eggs Benedict (Fabian) and French toast (Micha). Both were really beautifully presented and tasted great.

Check-out

Everything was very well prepared for check-out, which was friendly and quick. Of course we were asked how we enjoyed our stay and if we needed any assistance with our departure.

Costs

The bill for this one night at the Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur was around MYR 1,740, which was about 370 euros in November 2025. Breakfast was included in the Preferred Partner Rate and the upgrade to the Suite was possible because we applied a Suite Night Upgrade Certificate.

Departure and onward journey

We are now moving on to our next and final stop here in Kuala Lumpur as we’ll take a look at the Alila Bangsar for you. We then fly on to Bali with Malaysia Airlines on a Boeing 737-800 in Business Class, where we also take a look at the Alila Seminyak, the W Bali and the Nirjhara – all located in the southwest of the island – before flying back to Bangkok in Singapore Airlines Business Class also making a stopover. Finally there we will test the Waldorf Astoria and the St. Regis for you before returning to our home airport of Frankfurt.

Conclusion

Of course, we did some research in advance of our stay and were quite surprised by the many negative reviews online. So we arrived with mixed feelings but were completely convinced by the overall impression. The location in Merdeka 118 in particular – the second tallest building in the world – is of course unique and fun.

In addition, there was the very nice Suite with its own character, the attentive, fast and above all friendly service, as well as the wellness facilities with pool and hot tubs with the best view. The bar and restaurants were also really nice and of a very high quality, even if they were priced at the upper end of the “normal high quality” price range for food inside hotel restaurants. You really have to be able to afford a dinner like this here.

It was a shame that there was neither a cold towel nor a proper welcome drink at check-in – but to be honest, this wasn’t available at the Park Hyatt Bangkok either, so it seems to be the brand’s procedure. In any case, we had a great stay and felt very comfortable here.

The hotel is clearly upscale and elegant. Accordingly, solo and business travelers as well as couples are in good hands here. For families with children applies what we usually state at this point: you can go on vacation here, but with some wild kids you will certainly get some angry looks and for the fun factor of the little ones I would always choose another hotel.

This stay at the Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur was really great and so we can’t help but place the hotel in the Top-Notch category on our EVRYWHRE internal scale!
